Would it be possible to organise something like this at Willowbank?
it would be possible, but from memory its like $5000ish to hire the track. so you would definatley need commitment.

Mate that would be sweet if you could.
If it was expensive I'd be willing to tackle this event as my baby and invite every body. I think heaps of people may be interested if it was a commodore only type event. I would hassle other companies etc for prizes as well as our sponsors.
I would open it up to Brisbane Clubs as well LS1 etc

I think this where in lies the problem.
It does sound great - in theory.
But lets say that it did cost $5000k. I would have to make sure I had a decent commitment of at least 50 cars. 100 cars would be better. But then that would be determined by how much $5000 gives you in time. Lets say it was 3 hours. Would that be sufficient to run 100 cars.
I will wait to see what Chris says. If it was something that required 100 cars or less to work, and I mean work properly, I will organise it. But if it meant I was paying 100 and maybe getting two runs I'd have to reconsider.

Yeah fair points Adam, being "keen" and committed are two different things. As you say it would have to be financially viable for all concerned for it to go ahead.

Good idea Adam, my car will be finished a few weeks and would be up to this. Race time however would be the agenda to say ya or nay.
Other idea, no food outlets open and all food supplied by BCCC, hence a good deal of $$$ would come to thye club for payment and hopefully profit.
I would be happy to donate majority of the food-
burgers
sausages
steak
salads
dagwoods
chips
pie
sausage rolls
ETC
ETC
This may of set the cost?
100 people, not cars = average $15 spend + depending on the amount people drink and the weather equates to $1500.
I believe that is conservative, i know my son Chris does about 420 by himself...LOL
cheers

Thats it as PROPSI said, not only will you have competitors but ppl whom want to spectate. And of cause a small fee would be charged to spectaors (say $10) to cover their share of the insurance.
PLI is expensive but I will follow it up as it may be included in the package.

ok
I found this on the Boost Cruising for a day they organised a number of years ago. So, now it is only what the costs work out. Will know more when Chris gets back to me
Hi Guys N Gals,
PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE ESSAY! IT'S IMPORTANT.
After alot of work organising things ive finally managed to secure the Willowbank Track for a CLOSED session for Boostcruising users AND ASSOCIATES, as well. I will outlay the cost below and all it entails, I would appreciate as much bravo and bluster as you like in this thread, this is a day for fun and ShitsNGiggles? lol . ANY ONE CAN COME RACE, only requirement is that they are REGISTERED on these boards. (they will need to be to PM me).
Please read the following information CLOSELY i dont want to have to answer the same question a million times
Numbers are limited to 60 Cars/Bikes ONLY. NO EXCEPTIONS. Those who Pay first will have first dibs. And a clear and consise up to date list will be left here.
The track has been hired for SUNDAY AUGUST 22nd for numerous reasons, the main reason it wasnt hired on a Friday night is that Willowbank would have had trouble staffing the event, therefore we opted for a cold winter Sunday, The track is hired EXCLUSIVLY from 9am till 3pm. The track is booked out for several weeks either side of this date as well.
With the numbers LIMITED to 60 Willowbank management expects each driver to exceed 20 runs at least! Providing the track isnt closed for an accident etc.
Things will be done a little differently on the day, cars will have a race number AS WELL as the users *Handle* on the window, so all know, who is who, races will be organised on the day, there is NO competition, its all between ourselves, we can organise each of our own races or i can on the day.
This is part of the correspondence ive been having with willowbank.......after my meeeting
****
Dear Chris
It was good to finally meet and talk with you on Wednesday. My apologies for not getting back to you sooner as promised but we all have been quite busy getting ready for the Tin Tops this weekend.
I have booked August 22nd for you but what I would ask is that you don?t post anything on your site until you are satisfied with our arrangement.
For 60 entries the cost will be $4400 GST inc. This covers the following:
? ANDRA event sanction
? ANDRA competitor levy (Insurance)
? Queens land Ambulance Service cover 9am-3pm
? Fire Rescue cover
? Christmas Tree, incremental Track Timers and Score Boards
? Race Computer
? Staff
? Track equipment.
I would require that the $4400 be paid prior to the event.
With respect to spectator entry fees, our normal fee for Test N Tunes is $15. I know that you were keen on keeping it around the $10 mark, however, in order to keep your costs as reasonable as possible I am suggesting that the $15 spectator entry is maintained with Willowbank.
The event will be limited to 60 race competitors who will pre-enter by way of Boostcruising.
The event will be run between the hours of 9am ? 3pm, gates will be opened prior to this time in order that the competitors can set-up.
There will be a food outlet available for your event and I advise that alcohol is not permitted at the raceway.
******
So to get to the nitty gritty, you can see the costs, to divide it evenly between the 60 compeditors it would be $73.33* So lets just call it $73.50! I REALISE that is over twice the cost of a normal test n tune, but three times the amount of runs, Im hoping (ppl were happy to pay $80 for the Go-Karts) you guys will see what a great event this can be, and get behind it! The $73.50 would cover YOU and ONE CREW person, so you could split costs with friends. ($36.75 each), and ANYONE (invite as many as possible!!!) spectators can come and view, costs are as per usual Test N Tune.
The overview:
Location: Willowbank Raceway
Date : August 22nd
Time : 9am to 3pm
Costs : $73.50 per car entry (this gets Driver and ONE passenger in free of charge) $15 per Spectator entry.
Positions Available (this number WILL be adjusted after each pre-payment) : 10
Eligible Entrants: Any Boostcruising Registered User. ANY one can spectate.
Equipment required : Obviously a car or bike (stock or race bred, doesnt matter guys!) Long Pants, Long sleeve Shirt, Helmet, Enclosed Shoes.
Payment options : You can come into WASP Performance on the Gold Coast (see Banner Advertisement) and pay in person. Or PM my account on here and You can Direct Debit me the money, (I will give bank details thru PM's) Anyone who has used this method of payment before through me, can vouch for me, if thats an issue. Alternativly you can organise to pay me when im out one night, thou i DO NOT prefer this option.
On the Day : I will be at the track from 8am for people who wish to get their early and set up, I will PERSONALLY greet and finalise all entries on the day, and will handle ALL relations will Willowbank. My Mobile number will be availible to all on the day.
Last and not least, if your car is stock, who cares!! come out and race ya mates in a smaller enviroment, if you have a grudge to settle, this is the time and place to do it! All runs on the day will be recorded for tranfer to the boards after the event, so all can see how every one did
We need the 60 cars to come to balance the cost out, if we do not reach 60 entries then I may have to revise the day (thou with the amount of people who read these boards , i don't think it will be a concern, you can always get friends who wish to race to register through your computer).
**update** No Licence is required to race at willowbank.
ALL ARE WELCOME THERE IS NO DISCRIMINATIONS OR PROBLEMS.
Lets have a great day out!! Thanks again for putting up with this long post!!
****UPDATE****
I apologize for the time this has taken to arrange, but Willowbank had to *reshuffle* their calander to get us in. This is a ONE ONLY chance to pretty much have the track to yourselves!! Dont miss out! As stated all are welcome, if you know someone who wants to go, get them to call me!
spectators pay on the day of course at the gate, as per usual.
ppl who have paid here........ i will be at the gates from 8am meeting ppl, and i also will have that manned by another mod in the event that i am racing, there will be a checklist of all ppl entered and some form of ID will be required to show your who you say you are. and the list will be checked off.
THIS EVENT HAS NOW BEEN ADVERTISED TO OTHER FORUMS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC. IF YOU WISH TO SECURE YOUR POSITION I SUGGEST YOU CONTACT ME IMMEDIATLY.
THE EVENT HAS ALSO BEEN PAYED FOR IN FULL AND CONFIRMED.

I believe food will vans will be open if this many people participate. I just wonder if that will be there ruling for the day. Chris please find out either way
I reckon I will have no problems getting 100 cars.
Get me the info and I will start organising
I wonder how much the costs have changed from "a few years ago"?? It sounds like it could have the makings of being a great day for BCCC...I'd be in for sure..

Another club organises a very successful day like this every year. Willowbanks ruling on food is they supply the vans which means no BBQ's same as QR for C4C.

About 12 months ago it was $1500 at willowbank, I did it with the Torana club. 30 x cars $50 bucks each, sat, arvo and you can stay on for night test and tune for free. I exspect its probably gone up a bit maybe. and i think u have to prepay the $1500.

First and foremost, I was not trying to step on anybody's toes. It seems that what I was indeed trying to plan was something that indeed is planned and run every year successfully. Phoenix Lights is almost exactly what I had invisaged this being. I never really knew what Phoenix Lights was so I guess that's why I pondered the question.
I am not sure if it is possible or worthwhile trying to do a second event in a year. Maybe it is.
I welcome any feedback.

:)
Yeh Brendan (from another SEQ Commodore club) was a legend at gettin this Private Day Drags set up. People seemed to come out of the woodwork to participate...
If you get the numbers of participants happening good $$ to profit the club.
Last Private day I went to was an interstate State Of Origin comp put up by V8 Owners club held at Willowbank. Mark One Two shattered the 10 second barrier on his first run that day for Brisbane, not bad for a road registered daily driver commodore (Little Red Car). I've been banned from attending any of the subsequent SEQ Private Days by other clubs LOL... Not really a problem as I accept that my vocalising of personal opinions will ocasionally result in **IT happens outcome.

Thanks mate I will.
I just hadn't replied yet. I wouldn't mind picking your brain about it.
Hey Adam, I was just talking to a work mate who's in a car club and he said his club has it's own drag day organised soon at the 1/8 drag strip at Morgan Park raceway...maybe cost wise that might with investigating and something a bit different to the 1/4 at WB. Depending on costs we might require alot less cars to make a day of it, and if there was enough interest from within it could be a BCCC event only...just a thought..
Cheers

Yes, this is still going to be investigated. Due to the timing and the idea sort of coming only now, I think for BCCC to have it's own drag day may end up being 2011. This is simply because of nothing more than probably not being able to tie down a date for 2010.
I have been given some good advice already and will continue to gain advice on doing one. If we end up doing one ourselves only or one that includes other clubs will yet to be seen.
I am all for accepting the QC Phoenix Lights Invitation and attending that.

Guys why don,t we just do a BCCC get together until we can do a stand alone meet.
Lets just pick a Saturday, a NTH side meeting place cruise to a STH sidemeeting place, and have some internal awards and have some fun.
1)closest ET
2)closest MPH
3)best ET
4)best reaction time
5)best 60ft
6)best on show
etc,
guys we could have a great turn out. Pick a parking spot close and get in early. Have a BCCC location in the stands and line up with each other for some runs??????????????
That could be fun Paul if we get enough interested..

Sorry Paul, I am confused by what you are suggesting. Are you suggesting that we incorporate our own drag night into normal Test n Tune event. I understand if this is what you meant but am confused about the Northside to Southside bit.

Sounds like a good idea Adam having 2 drag events a year would not be a bad idea or maybe you could talk to the organisers of Pheonix Lights and do a joint event and split the cost. You could turn it into a mini cfc and have sponsor stands racing and burnouts etc all in a full day event. Either way i would be up for it.:)
