Any one had this?? the air con is nice and cold, after about an hour, it freezes the pipes in engine bay so you get cold air, but nearly no air pushing through. you turn it off for 10 mins and it melts turn air con on again and your fine... anyone know what could be causing it ?? cheers

That sounds like somthing best looked at by an Aircon shop / Holden....It sounds like you have a hose blockage some place....
I had it on my old VL Calais and it was a seized valve and a blockage......
It may be a partial blockage hence it clearing after 10 mins of being turned off....

sounds like the evaporator is freezing up.
On anything up to a VS, I would say a faulty A/C thermostat not cycling the compressor off once the evaporator core drops to the required temp, causing it to freeze up. Fairly common problem on the earlier models.
But from memory from VT onward the compressor always remains engaged whilst the A/C is switched on - there is some sort of valve in the compressor that regulates system pressure/flow, instead of the compressor cycling on & off like the earlier models. In which case you may have a compressor problem.

ask for John Reid, absolute top place for any air conditioning work to be done, they did our AE86 corolla sedan after alot of places said they wouldnt even touch it, or quote us a shitload ( in excess off $1000 ), got the job done for next to nothing ( came in under $400 for new bits an peices and regassing ) top bloke, no stuffing around, gets the job done the first time, HIGHLY RECOMMEND them
found my old post
I'd be taking it to a specialist A/C shop as opposed to a Holden dealer..I'd say Darrens pretty much on the mark with it, a thermostat issue or even a faulty TX valve perhaps, and as Darren said, depending what your car is, the VT compressor is a different style unit to the conventional piston type compressor, it does have a control valve in the bottom controlling pressure, a faulty valve will make the comp. go into "destroke" which stops it pumping effectively, replacing the valve is only a bandaid fix though, it's sometimes a sign of other issues within the system too.
Cheers
