Australia Day 2010
Tuesday, January 26,
1. Get your car in gear
2. Get ya bestest ozzie occa clobba ready
3. The day is about friendship and fun
4. A feeling of Pure Aussie Pride
We will commence an earlyish start/departure at 8am from the Twin BP servo northbound at Morayfield. Then head out on a leisurely run to the Sunny Coast in all its glory. At our end destination there will be opportunity to laze about, let the kids loose, have some fun in the surf or a bit of beach cricket rivalry or even soak a prawn in hope of fish. Tis up to you, the location has potential for all.
Return run will be via the mountains, soaking up the best sights and scenery that the sunny coast is renowned for.[/COLOR]
LOCATION
Mooloolaba Spit (Parkin Parade)
See link below. There are numerous locations along the spit that would be nice locations. There is direct access to both Beach and River.
If you zoom in on the map there are good numbers of parking options, B.B.Qs, Shelters and Kids Playground equipment. Should these be taken up on our arrival, the same map shows alternate locations on the South Side of the Maroochy River.

DEPARTURE MEETING POINT

Arrival Time approx 9.30 -10 am.
* * * ACTIVITIES OF THE DAY
RETURN CRUISE
Depart Mooloolaba at roughly, approx, somewhere around 1pm. :)
Return trip for those that would like to finish off with a cruise, it will be via the beachfront rd northwards to Maroochydore, then follow the Maroochy Riverfront, go under the Sunshine Coast Motorway, cross Udelo Creek, then turn left at Clarkes Rd.
Clarkes Rd will lead out to the M1. Continue under the M1 and on to Palmwoods
From Palmwoods head westward towards Montville. Turn left "before" reaching Montville – head along the Montville Maleny Rd
Turn left at T intersection and head towards Lansborough
Go through Lansborough and turn right to head along Glasshouse Mountains Rd
At the signpost Beerwah turn Right, go through the town and follow Kilcoy Beerwah Rd to and through Peachester. Continue along this rd until you come to a T intersection at D’Agular Highway (turn left at T).

End Cruise
If you could register your interest / attendance by way of a reply post in this thread it would be very much appreciated.
For those that don’t know the background and what we are celebrating, the below gives a bit of insight:
Australia Day is on January 26 and commemorates the establishment of the first settlement at Port Jackson, now part of Sydney, in 1788. It is an opportunity for Australians to come together to celebrate their country and culture. There are reflections on the achievements of the nation and explorations of way to make the country even better in the future.
On January 26, 1788, the First Fleet of 11 ships from Great Britain arrived at Port Jackson, which now forms Sydney Harbour. The First Fleet was led by Captain Arthur Philip. He established the Colony of New South Wales, the first penal colony in Australia. By 1808, January 26 was being celebrated as “First Landing Day” or “Foundation Day” with drinking and merriment.
In 1838, Foundation Day was Australia's first public holiday. It was also the occasion of the first public celebrations of the founding of Australia. The shores of Sydney Harbour were crowded and there was a firework display. By 1888, January 26 had become known as 'Anniversary Day' was celebrated in all colonies except Adelaide. In 1888, the centenary of the arrival of the First Fleet was celebrated with ceremonies, exhibitions, banquets, regattas, fireworks and the unveiling of a statue of Queen Victoria.
From 1946, January 26 was known as Australia Day in all states. However, the public holiday was moved to the Monday nearest to January 26 to create a long weekend. Since 1994, the Australia Day public holiday has been on January 26 in all states and territories.
Australians show their pride for their country on Australia Day.

Hey Ben I know my only job was to set the cruise route and location - all done. But just for a bit of fun, hows about a prize for best Ozzie Occa dressed car or person - somethin small like a bag of minties will do, but a crertificate or low cost trophy would add to the spectacle. Its all about a FUN day, friends, family.
Just a thought.

Wouldn't that give ya the shits. Brad and I were goin charter boat fishin this morning. At 4.30 am they rang to say it was cancelled.
Not to be detered I just loaded the car with my own fishin stuff and hatched a spontaneous plan to do the Goldie Coast through to Tweed. The aim was to fish my way from Southport and all points fishy to Tweed Heads (Tweed "used to have" heaps of Aussie Souvineer places).
All to plan. Got to the Tweed at about 2pm did a fish gig and a swim and a snorkel there too. Checked the souvineer shops and there wasn't one thing that I could use on the Australia Day Run.
There was an upside - I went into a few surfboard shops and am sorta getting the feel that the ol fart may be riding a board sometime in 2010. Imsa tad nervous but it's pretty cost effective fun from what I see of it - rekken a longer board would be more my sedate speed.. Anything Watersport is great imo.
Oh well off to Crazy Clarks and other $$ Dazzler Stores to see what I can find to dress the car up for Aus Day.
PS
I explored Currumbin Creek to the max - fishin, snorkelling and barby lunch by the waterfront. I checked the Boat, Paddle Board, Sailboard and Kyak "hire" places; and of course the local fishin tackle shop. Seems to me that Currumbin Creek would be a pretty good Aussie Day location too. It's pretty busy place, but head westward of the main drag and there are quite a few recreation areas by the waterfront without the crowded pack of the eastside location - both nothshore and southshore have options.

:)
I rekken the venue has something for everyone.
I went a tad overboard on the car dress up stuff.
Not that it's an issue to me but if draging the BCCC trailer is a problem I still think we can find a few barbies on site to do thu cookin. Just that those electric things seem to broil the meat and ungions rather than cook it...
Because I do so much sight seeing and personal cruises most weekends and stop wherever it takes my fancy, I have a crate/box of stuff in my car boot for cooking, toasting and coffee brewing items that will do the trick; but is only "single burner" albeit 12,000 btu based, hence of no help at all for large groups.
I am still a tad confused, do we bring our own Steak and Bangers and Ungions and Burger Rolls and Butter etc, or is the Club providing that stuff? I'm happy to bring my own but others may not, just need to know what to parameters are and some advice from the BCCC Admin Team.
JUST TO CLARIFY
The initial BP meeting place is
The BP on the Bruce Highway. You know the one were there is one heading north and one heading South. Its on the bruce highway northbound about 5 k south of the caboolture turnoff.
I usually park up north within the BP holding where there is the Truck and Trailer parking spaces.
Also be mindful of Adam's advice - link below

hey Pete,
just got the email and realised we are meeting up at 8am @ Morayfield
is it an 8am departure, or are we simply meeting at 8am ?
it's about a 2.5 hr run to Morayfield from Toowoomba (depending on how many old slow poke horse trailers & farmers trucks I get stuck behind on the backroads!), which means leaving here about 5.30am. If it's an 8am departure I may have to leave a bit earlier to get there before 8am , however if we are just meeting at 8 and departing a bit later, then I'll be right if I get there by 8.

Nah I don't get to ride with Darren often and its a friggen long way for him to get to any of our events; and I do appreciate the efforts of him and many others travelling quite long distances to support BCCC.
What about an 8am meet and greet for an 8.30 departure???????????
Its no probs to me either way, just that I think the location we are going to will fill up fast. I'm even happy for a 9am departure, but it will be iffy and bit of pot luck as to us actually securing a possie on the day...
Happy for good or bad feedback, just let me know quick smart.
Sorry, I haven't been on the forum watching this segment as much as I should have...My Bad :o
I thought my role in this was just to set a route plan. Oh well, I have a bucketload of goodies to bling the Calais and me as thu Ol Fart; and I really do like the destination and the return hinterland run home.
I have the boogie board, fins, snorkel gear, fishin gear, cricket set, beach ball, CHAIR and esky all prepped. Dunno where it will all fit in the car but I will work on that tomorra morning early.
Yeh I will have the UHF on channel 10 as usual.
CHRIS
Your welcome to ride with me and the luxo. Just be aware that I don't have music nor radio on most times (could be boreing for many), but I like to hear the varied sounds of cruising in its raw form and almost the scerenity of silence, not what I can do at home with big base and loud music. I just love the sound of N/A induction roar and a V8 working as it should.

Its a great sight when the active club members bring their cars out and are all kitted up with flags and Aussie Day Regalia. Ockka pride is still alive, eeehha, awesomme.
I have a humungous bruise on my left arm/wrist from that dumbass jumping off the bridge into shallow water - my watch mashed against my wrist, unclipped itself but thankfully stayed on my arm each time. Lesson earned - only jump off bridges at "High Tide" that way it's not so far to the water. Man them four young kids gave the old dude some good tips, at least I didn't hit the rocky bottom and have a scrape on my foot as the little lady did. I'm getting too old for this stuff, my whole body is acheing tonight. Once would have sufficed, but no not the go for dumbass me!!! Or maybe it's a combo of that, the hinterland twisters and Mt Mee.
I'm a tad embarrassed that we couldn't get the locations I had planned - too many people with the same spots in mind. Regret also to the two cars I think we lost in the confusion. Please accept my sincere appologies.
Where we did locaate was pretty awesomme. I had a nice swim and sloz about in the water, then the "Kopwabunga" off the bridge stuff. Great game of cricket but don't rekken the aussie pros have anything to fear. Not enough time to get into using the fishin gear, snorkel, and booggie board I brought along.
Thanks to Chris and those that brought the barby, tables, food and drink - all turned out great. :D I have quite a few photos to sort through and will post when I get time.
Tis always a nice cruise across the sunny coast hinterland - some superb views. Albeit the games really began at a few locations across Mt Mee though as its a lot easier to cruise and maintain the group with only three cars involved. Bloody glove box popped open on three ocasions - aggh, I'm thinking of putting a dead lock on the thing, there is stuff strewn all over the place within the VE atm. All part of the experience I suppose Whooot. :D  ;)
In all I had an absolute fantstic day!!! Man I love this club and the people who maake it what it is.
PS
Yeh like Darren I was pretty knackered when I got home, had a few rumbos but couldn't stay awake, so off for a Nanna Nap I went. Feelin good again now.

Yeh as a youngster I did a lifesaving bronze medallion course that tought me safety jumps as part of the cariculum. Big jumps shallow water is good fun and an adrenaline rush (as there is very real risk of injury), but if ya get it wrong it's a truely painfull Ball/Knacker Buster and heaps of pain but on the upside at least your safe, alive and well. Been there done that at much greater heights than today; I prefer to dive as it's less of a tummy tickle than jumping lol.
If ya land on some buggers boat coming under the bridge that you didn't sight, just ask em if they don't mind if you go for a ride and maybe do some fishin with em... A great way to make new friends and acquaintances - well sorta... ;)
;)
I really do agree with you Chris on the Numbers issue, I passionately love Quality and not so much into Quantity (for obvious reasons) - Darren and I discussed this at length today. The people participating today were excelent representatives and participants of the club. Hence my true Pride in the way it all panned out on behalf of BCCC as a team effort. Great people make for a great day - you only need a couple of knuckles participating to make it stressful - a simple formula imo.
Great to see Ryan and that superb white VE Calais-V running humungo wheels along today. Sorry I didn't get to catch up much dude.
I have aprox 40 pics out of around 200 shots on the day to post and two videos. Man I need to edjamacate myself on 1080 video within a stills camers. Not real flash result and pretty shakey, but I will get better at it. Tis the first time I have used that camera.
PS
I have sighted a really good quality beach/recreation cricket set at A Mart, I will go buy it for next time around.
