Hey All,

Well I decided to sell my VL and get something a bit different, I have been whinging about wanting a V8 for a while now, so I finally found one I like :D

1994 Holden Berlina VR Sedan

Standard 5 litre.

Shift kitted auto.

All power options (P/W, A/C, Cruise, Climate Control, ABS, SRS etc)

It's basically standard so I can start from scratch and do everything my way.

Plans include:
Super low springs + shocks.
Pacies + Full twin 2.25" exhaust.
18's.
SS kit + Interior. Chrome door handles and grille inserts.
All new ignition bits - Dizzy, coil, leads, plugs.
K&N filter and CAI.
Some sort of cam.

Don't want to go to stupid with it as my mrs drives it aswell.

Let me know what you think

I was kind of thinking of lowering it a little bit and getting later model hubcaps just to retain the stealthiness. :D

yeh mate looks like the front has been lowered and the back has been raised, weird lol, but i like it :) sleeper FTW!!

I suspect it's had some sort of heavy duty tow kit at one stage, the towbar and mounts are no longer there but I can see where they were bolted up, all the wiring for the plug is still there, so I am assuming its had raised/stiffer springs in the rear to accomodate for a big trailer / horsefloat...

great starting point mate and it has all the options. A bit of a sleeper at the moment!

any reason you are planning to replace the distributor ? The distributors usually last a long time, if anything might just need a rebush - check out the one you have now, if there is no play in the bushes, then save yourself some $$ and don't replace it.

Stay away from the new distributors advertised on Ebay. Most of them are Procomp which seem to have a really bad reputation for poor quality components.

I was just going on past experiences (mainly with VL's) I like to replace all the ignition system so there is no future complications.

Not a big fan of ebay cheap crap, If I replace it I will be going with a quality item. Do MSD make dizzy's for these? I already have an MSD coil for it and I have heard they are the go.

Yeah you can get a MSD system, they are good, im getting a 6AL or similar MSD setup for my new engine.

If you like the hubcap look id just lower it a tad and keep the stock look outside. Steath seems to be the way to go atm thats for sure, or even remove the caps and spray up the pursuities, i like that look also, pursuities all round with center caps.

Very good starting point.

I was thinking that, chrome center caps and dress rings would look mint.

VL 6cyl are a bad example for distributors, in fact the entire VL EFI system is junk. Great engine let down by a terrible engine management system & wiring
The V8 distributors very rarely if ever let you down. I've come across the occasional distributor sensor that needs replacing, but apart from that there is nothing in them. There is a shaft with a rotor button and a hall effect sensor + plate.

You can't buy the distributors new from Holden anymore. And I'm not sure if MSD make a complete distributor or if they just wire into the existing distributor. And to be honest, unless you have big compression and/or a fairly wild engine combo, you won't notice any gains. The factory ignition system is actually extremely good. The ignition module reliability is probably it's weakest point

It should be.

Ryan, is it solid or IRS on the back...if its solid, I will have some springs in a week or too (Lowering the rear of the wifes VS a little more as its still too high for the bodykit :)) you can have to bring the back down level...if its IRS I have some short traval shocks for it if you like...

Hey Mate,

It's live axle (thank god). I hate IRS. Send me a PM with a price mate.
