I was browsing for Automated License Plate Recognition software, and I stumbled across this site.. I had to laugh when I saw the site's logo up the top... lol

Anyone used this spray before? It apparently is loaded with light-reflecting sparkles that make the speed camera flash over-expose, but is no different to look at normally.

It seems like a worthy investment with all these blitz's, extra speed cameras and increased police presence around..

Alot of them sprays have been tested and don't work at all. They can enhance the photos to find the plate numbers out if needed.

I've seen one of the older sprays and would agree. I've never seen or tried this one, but it has atleast some logic behind it. Im gonna order some and take a couple of photos and see how they turn out.. The over-exposing/reflection effect caused by the flash makes the number plate go completely white - there is nothing to enhance. Atleast that is the desired effect.

Not only is it illigal to modify numberplates from their packaging but how will you know if it works or not unless you spray it on and go past a camera to test it....if it's a mobile unit I have been told the operator can see the pic stright away and if does not present right calls it into a patrol car....also some cams are now fitted with ir flashs to prevent ppl. Useing this stuff or the old number plate covers that bubble

the problem you have is that you have to go past a camera to test that works. if it doesn't thats more money for them. if it does and you get caught lots more money for them. let someone else test it then make the decision.

Going by what it says, the number plate is still 100% visible to the naked eye - it looks no different. No where in the law does it state that the number plate has to be photogenic.

I haven't seen anywhere that has mentioned the speed cameras use infrared, only that there are analogue and digital types. Digital being able to use more than just radar, such as road-sensors, point to point timing etc.

The infrared would help to automate identification of the letters from different plate patterns, colours, shapes etc. It still will not work if the plate is over-exposed. See ANPR (advanced number plate recognition) for more info. click for example (http://www.sigmaplus.com.au/copr_example2.htm)

Mythbusters have tested these products and more...

plus tried other techniques for beating speed cameras......

The Speed Cameras in the ACT use these big Infared lights as flashes in wet weather and of a night time.... you can see them light up but they are not blinding like the normal flashes used here in QLD....

We should really get back to basics people... SPEEDING IS ILLEGAL....

Having something on your licence plate that 'may' alter its image is also illegal.... and if you do manage to alter the image of your licence plate while being done by a speed camera i can only think that you'll cop alot more than just a simple speeding fined 'when' you get caught

Yes i know i'm not one preach, as i probably speed more than most on this forum, i know what i am doing is wrong, it's just a bad habit of mine, like a user addicted to coke, and i will pay the price when (not if) i get caught

Cheers, Kev

Although the cam is analogue the flashes are IR and has no impact on the cam itself.

As Kev said, the main issue at hand is that speeding is illigal and although nothing says the plate has to be photogenic there is a law that states your plates must have been issued by PPQ or QT and if the plate is not photogenic that indecates plate modification and that is also an offence.
