Recently I read something about speeding fines. The document or thread implied that if you were caught speeding twice in the same year, you would be issued with loss of double demerit points.

yesterday I was talking to somebody about this and the comment was that this wasn't the case.

This morning, I thought I would do a google for it and found a Qld Cabinet document dating back to 2006. Back when Hollywood Pete was running the state.

PREMIER LAUNCHES 2006 ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN – ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
Queensland Premier Peter Beattie today launched a confronting new Queensland Road Safety awareness campaign that along with double demerits for repeat speed offenders will be in place before Easter.

Mr Beattie said Enough is Enough complements a range of incoming legislative changes being rolled out over the coming year under Campaign 300 which was announced after the Queensland Government Road Safety Summit in Brisbane seven weeks ago.

He said that from April 13 repeat speeding offenders would lose double demerit points as part of the series of tough penalties to reduce the road toll.

"Anyone caught more than once speeding 20 km/h or more over the limit will lose double demerit points".

now I admit I hadn't read the 20k bit before

Any comments.

Ok so Corey has found out for us

Just had a look and it is sadly true – additional 4 points between 20 and 30, 6 points between 30 and 40 and 8 points over 40 on to the normal points for the offence. Although 40+ doesn’t matter as it is instant 6 month suspension anyway!

Well really if you can not keep your speed under 20 more then the current speed limit should you really have a lic :)

I mean if your on the way to the coast at one stage you would have to be doing 130kms just a little fast isnt it....says the man who hasnt had a speed fine in oh roughly 20 yrs :)

My ex wife got one and was under my name yrs ago, we just left it, but my own speeding fine nothing for that long, not a bad :p

my last speeding fine was 40 kay over, 126 in a 60. lost it for 6 months. but it was dodgee as. i believe i was only doing 80ish, and the coppa was behind me and couldnt show radar. I was a truck driver at the time, told him i needed my licence, and the cops attitude changed, he told me to fight it. lol. but last time i was in court for my licence, the judge said i dont want to see u back here cause you aint getting your licence back. lol. so i had to take 6 months suspension.
I think the law is fair, 20 kay over is over by a fair bit. 10 kay over isnt so bad, most people sit 10 kay over the limit on the highway.
I would like to see the cops crack down harder and bring in more things against drink driving. Im more then happy to get stopped at a booze bus on a saturday night, as its great to see there trying to make our roads safer, however, when i get pulled over for a so called random breath test, then let me defect the fuck out of you, that gives me the shits. im off topic i know. lol

I don`t want to start a new thread seeing that we are talking about road safety after all. WTF are stupid women with 4WD putting their kids in their car seats from the drivers side back door as cars go pass? Pisses me off.

yeah, that shits me too...
also, something that drives me nuts every day, people merging on the highway at 60 KPH, everyday i almost get cleaned up by a semi trying to merge onto the highway at caloundra. Its not the semi's fault, as usually there is a car next to him, its just the dickheads in front do 60, then last minute either almost stop, or floor it. leaving me high and dry

This is something I'll never understand, but see it all the time. Usually I find they like to stop.
Another annoying thing is when you're on highway (or any road) and spot someone waiting to turn onto the same road from a side street. They seem to wait until you're on top of them, then they pull out and putt along at stall speed??

why ? does it make you have to slow down to drive safe:confused:
if the kid sits in back on the drivers side the belts need to be done up from that side

i think his more talkin about thru school zones where the parent chucks the kid in the back on the drivers side door, but also opening the door onto oncomming traffic then stuff arseing around and take there sweet ass time closing it again, shits me off to no end when that happens, have almost cleaned up 4 doors so far because of this

easy answer drive slower and be ready to stop if you need to
just think how you feel if it was your wife with your kid
i am never in a rush near a school zone

there are occasions when exceeding the speed limit by a considerable amount is quite safe.for some people even driving on the road is a danger in itself. in the northern territory the speed limit has been reduced to 130 k. are they a lot better drivers than the rest of us? even in my old age 10 k is little more than a trot. many of us who modify car spend a considerable amount of time and money on improving our suspension and braking. we are more likely to go on advanced driving courses or sporting events. when did you last see a radar unit parked outside a school? i received a speeding ticket on the way to toowoomba at 3.45am. i had the road to myself. dual carriageway the whole distance. if i had got a speeding ticket that had endangered anyone including myself i would have said fair enough. go hard on idiot driving by all means.

well that makes sense...you'd have to have a bit of a death wish if you get caught speeding over 20km/h more than twice a year...but as far as the amount of the fine...just revenue raising! lol
