do you guys remember a bloke by the name of Kyle Macdonald?

He swapped a paper clip for a house, well not so simply

he started with a red paper clip, to which he swapped for a fish shapped pen, and swapped that for a snow glob.... And so on and so forth

after 14 swaps and 1 year he ended up swapping for a 3 bedroom house

i think we should give this a go,

i have a sports steering wheel i can donate to start it off.....

Rules, item swapped for must be of greater value. Must be car realated.

Say, we give a week for people to post up what they will swap for it, we take the item of biggest value for the swap, than continue on from there,

when we have some thing of great value we raffle it off?

Cheers, kev

Kev

I like it a lot. But I must be a bit slow this morning or maybe I'm just missing something. Is this to be for the club....

You are starting off with a wheel. Say someone swaps 'lets say' a set of tyres. Who then owns the tyres? The club or you? As you said it was a donation to start with, I can only assume that it works as though the club owns the steering wheel. Then when the other person swaps with the tyres, they take the steering wheel and the club then owns the tyres. Is this correct?

If what I have said is correct and what is meant, then I am all for it. I think though we may need some more finite details. I think you may need to start small. People may be put off when starting large. If you start small you can gauge how well the system is working.

I pretty sure thats what Kev was getting at.....I have to agree it would be good....but people will need to put a value for each item the SWAP...

yeah, what ever is swapped will become the clubs property

Instead of swapping for the first thing to come along, we hold it open for a week for people to offer things to swap, we(admin) than decide on which item we should swap for.

Can admin swap?

Can admin swap?

i don't see why not, as long as it follows the rules

This idea was forwarded by Kev late last year. Would anybody be interested if we tried to get it off the ground

Ok, well we need something to start with. Someone needs to donate somthing to the club. The club is the primary owner.

So, come on peeps, let's have someone donate something to the club and lets get this going.

If you remember that guy that started with a paperclip and got through to a house? Maybe if we get to a point where the item is worth considerable money, we could sell the item on ebay.

The other idea was to have an ebay 'shop'. I think this may have been done in the past. But the idea is that people could donate anything they didn't want anymore to the club and we could list it on ebay under Brisbane Commodore Car Club or BCCC. All money raised would be for the club.

If we decide to go ahead, I will ask Corey to create a new section in the forum just for it. All rules etc will be there.

Thanks Brad. That is very generous.

And this is not meant to come off sounding like I am ungrateful because I most certainly am not.

There is one problem I can see. That Taco is worth a bit and might not be the right thing to 'Start' the swap-a-thon. Maybe, Brad, if you are willing to donate it, we use that as a trial for the BCCC 'store' on ebay.

Alright, how about a set of 15" steel rims and tyres off a VT. They are off a basic Executive.

With a bit of a clean and prep etc the wheels would be fine. I offer that as the first item

so how does it work from here

Carbon
06-06-2010, 02:33 PM
ok, so I have essentially donated the rims and tyres to the club.

The idea is to start the 'swap' (as I have). Whoever is first in offering a swap is the 'winner'. But the swap must be worth at least the same as the orignal item. The item does not have to be car related.

As I said, if we get to point where the item is worth a considerable amount, I suggest we sell it on ebay for the club and start all over again.

Does it make sense. I ask you all to comment and help on the fine tuning of it.

Carbon

Correct me if wrong but I think the pursuit ones were 7" and the standards were 6". These are the standards. They have the original hubcaps as well..

generally the normal stocko's are 15x6 inch, the interceptors ( cop stockos ) and pursuities or what ever you want to call them are 15 x 7 ( then ya chuck the 15 x 6.5 shallow dish, 15 x 6.5 deep dish, 15 x 6 shallow and deep dish into the mix and everything goes to hell :hit head: ) but they will have them stamped on the rim itself

Sorry to be a sceptic but if we are swapping things till the point where the item is of considerable value - then it is sold on eBay doesn't that mean someone will end up out of pocket????

Carbon
06-06-2010, 06:39 PM
In technical terms - yes. But that's what I'm getting at. Some people couldn't be bothered trying to sell something so they may want to donate it. I'm suggesting this as a method of people getting rid of things. My wheels for example are a donation. Brad's tacho was a donation. Both things of value but donations to help fund the club we're trying to support

ill swat a set of mack truck mud flaps for the rims, there brand new mud flaps and to buy them from mack truck is quite abit i think about $180 just for a set of 2 i can swap a set of 4
or if someone wants to buy a set i sell them $80 a set (2 in a set) $130 for 2x sets and $180 for 3x sets

also how good is the tred on the tyers

just checked the price online and there aout $114.50 for a set of 2 so yeah
