Today was a big day. Finally my coloured brakes went on the car. As in our thankyou thread, a big thanks must go to Corey.
After the suckers were on, it was time for a quick clean and Corey and I and a new member to the club, Wade (he hasn't signed up yet as he is having internet issues)set off for a quick splat to the spit. Unfortunately the time had gotten away from us but we did see some cars. We then hung around for a while, I took some pics and we headed home. A great little spur of the moment thing.
Anyway the pics I took.

Ok, from what I understand, you are putting Chev badges on your car
Chev never made an SS
Simply, I put the chev badge on because of the motor and it looks better.
It is still a SS commodore.
The other badge is a HRT badge and if you must know is about to be removed for something else.

Yeah the three gauge readout came standard on my SSV onwards I believe. Mine is a MY09. It is not in the SS.
I think, but dont quote me, that you can get the setup from JHP in Melbourne

The gauge in the HU display are standard across all SSV models, from 06 onwards. Wish I got it with my car :(
Carbon
18-12-2010, 08:32 PM
Actually incorrect. The three gauge display you see in mine was the upgrade from MY09 onwards. My car is Msy 08 build and one of the first MY09 models.
Edit: the earlier SSV's did have that display but had what has been referred to as Atari gauges

Adam if I were to decide to put a more lumpy cam in my R8 I have a couple of questions about it. I know a few of you guys have done it so I'll ask. First of all what sort of dollars are involved to do it and second of all how would it go with mine being an auto?
Cheers,
Andrew
Carbon
19-12-2010, 05:54 AM
Auto will be fine. The cam in my car is the same as a couple of autos on here including Pete's Calais and Andy's VE Senator. Both very street driveable cars and all three are producing good numbers.
Hi-Torque did the work on all three and you're looking just north of $3k for the install (not sure if that changes for a VZ)
Ring Chris or Kent, tell them you're from BCCC and get them to give you a quote.

Obviously a bit has happened since these pics. We had the GM Roundup where I got a 2nd place in 2000-2009 Modified. First trophy. Great feeling
Another addition. Not something to help power and not really aesthetic because it's under the car. But I bought a UMI Performance tunnel brace and painted it the same green as the their trailing arms and toe rods I bought

Totally agree. But heres a doozy for you. I had been contemplating a Nick Williams 102mm billet throttle body to match my FAST 102 LSXR manifold. I had thought 600 shipped from the states was expensive. Today I read that VCM in Melbourne have released their own new manifold and 108mm Throttle body. Guess how much the throttle body unit alone is? $1458. It's nearly $3000 if you do the manifold.
Now I'm sorry but I find that ludicrous. I'm all for buying Aussie made.... But that's retarded. A VE owner could have a FAST manifold, NW TB, billet fuel rails and braided lines for a little over $2k shipped from the states.

Hey guys
I finally installed my trim and three gauges on Friday night. The final result is simply outstanding. The trim really does look like its from factory and the gauges work a treat. The only problem we found with three gauges was that there ends up being three massive obi connectors which you need to hide. We achieved this by removing the obd connector from the trim, connecting all gauges up and then hiding the whole lot behind the trim
When you receive the trim, you receive a very detailed 'instruction' booklet which is essentially made up of exerts from the service manual. There was only one thing extra we did which was to remove the piece of trim right at the base of the centre trim.
So, the pics

Just a note: When we had it all installed and i had plugged in the stereo unit again, it came up with something about mismatched data and the stereo would not do anything. Also, the interior lights seemed to be reversed (i.e. came on when doors were closed....). We somehow fixed this by simply closing all doors, locking the car with the key, unlocking it and doing this a couple of times. Simply fixed it. I'm sure there is a reason it did this and can probably be better explained but thats how we did it.

I was asked recently if I had considered getting the MSD coil packs. Considering the price and no real gains to be had, I said no. He said they look good (being red) and I have to agree. So I said to him, how about you paint them, and he did. And they looked great
Over the weekend I decided to do it myself. I think they look pretty good

Thanks guys. I can't wait to get them on. This week.
Keith, we can order rear calipers at any time and we can do the same with Greg at GSL for rotors.

I can get them. No probs. They said there was no real saving as he had given us bottom price. It would be better if we didn't as it would miss duty.
I'll let you know when I need some money. Will confirm with them on tomorrow and get Greg ready as well.

Funny conversation me and the wife had....
I was setting up a new game of Guitar Hero with my son and typed in Carbon as the group name.
Son: Why's that name?
Me: Thats the name I use on some forums.. Thats how some people know me.
Son: oh ok
Wife: huh?
Me: you know how on forums etc you have a user name
Wife: yeah
Me: well thats what I chose. On some forums I use my old school nick name but on the BCCC website I decided something new
Wife: why, do you support the tax?.....lol
Me: no, its after Carbon Fibre, you know, like what you find on racing cars.
Wife: Oh, I actually thought it was a combination. You know Car (because you are into cars)and bon (because your surname is Bonsall).
I was lost for words. That'll do me......... so there's the real reason
That may even be enough for me to get my plates.....
.....lol

What can I say but WOW! This shifter is amazing. I have used a gm Motorsport knob but the shifter is MGW. It's terrific. Nice and precise and has removed all the sloppy stock feel. Highly recommended. Want a decent short shifter? This is the real deal

You'll love it Glenn and Kris I think you should also. Is really nice. The guy who fitted it was really impressed with it. He thought the install was a piece of cake and that it had heaps more adjustment than a rip shifter.
I'm not saying the rip shifter doesn't work but it's different. I've had both and this is just great
Guys, just a piece of advice. The install appears to be a little tricky. The shop said he hadn't fitted one before but had no real problems. That said, he has a hoist and a full mechanical background. I'm not suggesting don't try it if you feel confident enough - I'm just making a comment. We did talk about doing the install in the garage but, and no offence to my mate, I'm kind of glad i didn't put us through the horror I've read some guys went through doing it on jack stands etc.
He also made the custom fabrication for the knob. The thread on the knob was M14 and the male thread on the stick was M12. He used a helicoil and if I'm honest I'm glad I invested the money in this fitment (about $45 for the custom fab on that).

Just some updates...
Friday a 10 days ago I did this entering a driveway
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s212/ZC_74/62b0132c.jpg
Yesterday, my local Touch Up Guys http://www.touchupguys.com.au/brisbane/slacks-creek.php
came round and fixed it. Charged me $150
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s212/ZC_74/b0de9eba.jpg
Havent seen it out in the sun yet but it looks like a good job. Stewart was great and lives a few streets away. Recommend him for any of the suburbs close to me or they do have guys in other areas.
Some may know I am getting the rear Brembos and one fellow brethern who I am helping get the same brakes suggested caps for my wheels similar to what he had done. After his suggestion I admit to using it so big thanks Rob
Anyway, stickers arrived on Friday and I put them on yesterday.

I wanted to sell and get out of it last year. Get out of fast cars and clubs altogether and into a 4wd or something.mim so glad I didn't. I've had a blast over the last 12 months (apart from being in hospital).
Cant wait till Powerplay next weekend.
