Hey all
Name: Peter
Location: Brisbane
Occupation: Former IT hardware tech. Father
Marital Status: Defaco (did I just fill out a centrelink form?)
I wish I'd found BCCC sooner, met a member at a pre-vocational automotive course. Pete with the VS v6 equipe
Born and bred Holden fan, dad had several worked 186's in several bedford vans, my grandad worked for GM during the 60's. Mum prefers her old 750 Ducati now but back in the day she owned/street-raced/blew-up/repuilt more Torry's, kingswoods etc, then I can count on my hands.
I own a manual 96 VS V6 Executive, just got extractors, will put em in asap.
That dyno day sounds awsome, and my mates would all love the Tambo cruise, (they live there).

Absolutely guys, I can’t wait to get out there and join ya’s. My cars no beast at the moment, but I’d love to get out onto the track and learn as much as possible about my VS and its mechanics. Count me in for the dyno day, I’d love to see what numbers my engine is pushing.
Need to get the chip done, extractors go on next week, need new brake rotors, I’d like 1.8 roller rockers, cooling system is a bit off (despite the new radiators and thermostat) and the pressure plate in the clutch feels like its sponge cake or maybe that’s my heavy foot. Oh and uni’s + center bearing is wobbly. BTW I just did a cert 1 Automotive and got a great reference... just incase anyone is after an apprentice :D

Yeh issue is still there with the cooling system, The radiator, it's fan and the thermo works awesome, keeps it very cool, but the tinyest bit of start stop in the city brings it strait up over 3/4, today on the highway it was right down below 1/4. My oddometer stoped ticking over just after i hit 200000k. Gota fix that asap. Major issue with my commodore workshop manual, they keep disapearing, i've lost 2 now. Today I lost it big time 'cause i couldn't find it, i had the entire house's contents out in the back yard, I even opened an old shoe box that was on the cubord from years ago... they're both realy gone... they never leave my work area adn they've both disapeared... and it's not as if i keep it messy, it's spotles atm... F**** ... nother $50 ... need gaskets for my extractors, AND i need my manual so i can take the steering rack off to get the pacemakers in... never done any steering stuf b4, and f*d if i'm paying for it to be done...:mad::eek:

No luck at all... Today I wanted to install my pacemakers I got second hand of a fella whoz turbo'd his series 2 VS (240kw custom backyard job!!). I got the customized y piece he used and all the gaskets ready to go on. Took it all over to my dad's place, he said he'd help out (he's a pro wielder of 20yrs xp). when I got there he started making excuses as to why I shouldn't install them myself... So it ended with nothing being done :( His reasons where basically 'cause we don’t have a hoist and the right tools to get one of the bolts of the headers (that impossible to reach drivers side one down the back). Personally I'm confident even though I have no idea what I'm doing especially when it comes to taking the rack off... Bolt on bolt off, simple? It really never is that simple tho is it...
On closer inspection I have the standard headers with a standard y piece which from memory is 2". Then on the other side of the CAT is a 2,1/4" down to 2" diameter adapter section that’s wielded onto the flange. Then it's 2,1/4 around either side of the muffler. Then somehow the 2,1/4" flange after the muffler is bolted to a 2,1/2" flange on the tail pipe which gets reduced to around 2" around the rear axle bends (non mandrel I'm assuming) back to 2,1/2" with a 3" tip... It's shaped like a trumpet! and I thought it was just the hotdog on the 2,1/2" tail pipe that made it noisy.
I duno what the person who had it b4 me was on... but they obviously had little to no idea... I'm going to save up and throw the whole thing in the bin (eBay) and put a full 2,1/2" on with the pacemakers. I'm thinking mandrel bend y piece and properly fitted flanges with consistent piping with no flow restricting dodgy work. The bend around the axle needs to be mandrel bent to keep it at 2,1/2" and the clearance around the axle needs to be reduced for better flow, there’s sumthing like 150mm of space there and horrid 90º bends... why bother if it's gona be a circus of rubbish flow restricting pipe work.
Why?
Mathematically speaking: a N/A 3.8L engine takes in a max of 19L of air @ 1000revs per min!
