well thought i out this here because it kinda fits into a few catergories..
I decided that im over the lil 6.. igte off my p's dec nxt yr so when my rego runs out in feb im thinkn of taking the vg off the rd n gutting out all the old worn out bits n replacing it with a 6spd v8 hopefully:P
just wanna kno where do i start? do i needa talk it over with an engineer 1st?
also wats is teh rules n regulations? n shoudl i go oldschool chev or new school? i want sumthin with an awesome rumble that doesnt wake up the whole of qld, but will produce a high power output as a N/A as i personally dont really like the turbo supercharge noise..
also woudl i b able 2 do it for <20k?
also what do i do tailshaft n diff wise? do i get one custom made of modify one ?

Have u looked at what is out there, as for $20k u could get a shit hot car already done......
LS1 is nice and light engine being alloy and all and you can pick them up for around $3k off ebay
Have a look around and when you find things price them up and then see what is is really going to cost ya :)

Good to see....the Built not Bought attitude.... :)
I would suggest giving the guys at Hi Tourqe a call....
My Suggestion would for 20K:
S/c LS1 with big cam, 6 speed ect....
There is no reaseon why you the coin you are prepaired to spend you cannot have a cover car.
As stated above, LS1's are at a price now where finding a cheap one for under 3-5K is easy...
for example:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/LS1-GEN3-V8-optional-with-vs-conversion-kit_W0QQitemZ170398810940QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Car _Parts_Accessories?hash=item27ac8f833c
Fresh custom paint in interior just make sure you site down. work out a budget and above all stick to it... IE: 9K engin - 6K paint & panel and 5K interior.

Hey Nic I cant wait to see where you go with this. Definitely go the LS1 and for the money you want to spend, if you do this smart, you will have a showstopper ute. Keep everyone posted on your thoughts and progress.
Cheers

well been lkn on boost ebay n few other sites.. cheapest i seen is a ls1 + 6spd with new h/d clutch etc 4 4k.. which i thought is pretty gd value.. n only 90 000 on teh clock..
but its already outta teh car so not sure bout it:s and in newcastle so gonna keep it in mind coz i kno newcastle flights can be very cheap sumtimes:)
aiming 4 an engine bay as nice as tufcab.. the yellow vn with teh ls1:)
makes it a lil easier to work on in future as well:)
thinkn a nice cam thats street friendly but will give it a nice v8 rumble combined wit a twin exhaust:)

just make sure you do all your sums first before you do the conversion.
The engine/trans is usually the cheapest part when doing LS conversions into early models. I've seen quite a few abandoned LS1 projects after the person realised they had underestimated the cost and work involved in the conversion. Also avoid the early LS1's, because you could be buying yourself a rattly oil guzzler.
And you will need a mod plate as the engine & gearbox weren't a factory option for that car.
