a chip re-routes your fuel map and timing...

the higher the stage the wilder it gets... and with out engine mods the more fuel you will use

i've found a stage 4 chip for mine but i'm trying to weight up the Fuel cost vs Power deal........ i don't know if it is really worth the extra fuel that you'll be using :S

don't expect any big significant power gains from a chip alone.
It can enhance performance, and shift power ranges up or down which can make the car 'feel' better, but overall performance won't change much.

if ya get a chip, ur better off to get some head work, and cam done..
they work better together than alone on each other...
all it does it alter ur fuel and air ratios, as well as shift points in the computer for the auto, rev limiter, etc etc..
well worth gettin one, but do ur homework first before ya get too ahead of urself..

i got a stage 3 memcal, and stage 2 or 3 cam in my VR buick motor, and it does use fuel, has heaps more power, but im yet to get it runnin correctly before i take it to a dyno meet/ place..

there is heaps to know about this stuff, just get onto www.justcommodores.com and have a look around there..
heaps of people are sellin cams, memcals, and extra parts cheap as there..:)

if you are going to get a chip, speak to the likes of 'Greenfoam' or Delcowiz. I think they are both members at the Just Commodores forum. Seems like they have a lot of happy customers, and price is good too.

But ultimately as said, it's more an improved 'feel' rather than any sort of actual performance gain. There are a lot of myths out there about how much difference a chip alone can make on a stock engine. But having said that it can make the car nicer to drive, and more boot off the line etc.

Personally though, if it were me I'd be saving my dollars for some proper engine upgrades eg exhaust, intake, cam etc and then get it tuned on a dyno. It's the only way to do a proper tune. Memcals calibrated without the car, will never optimise your setup
