Hi all

I just got this email from Paul Rusic who runs the Time Attack series. There is some very good explainatory stuff below.

I am considering going on one of their Driver Training Days - its pretty cheap for the learnings that will obviously be gained.

Be aware, there is absolutely no need for big banger V8 or Turbo to have a crack at this and have super suspension setup nor special tyres. Lots of people take their daily drive four cylinder cars out, and I have even seen quite a few four wheel drives having a go. You can go as fast or as slow as you want. It is a very professional setup. BCCC's Drunk Kev often does Flag Marshall work on these days, so he could give good info too.

It is a far better way of giving your car a run without fear of the Police and losing your licence or accidently killing someone on public roads. Bottom line is that it's a hell of a lot of fun and quite safe.

Hi Guys,

Starting from Nov 24 Track Day we will be launching driver training. This will become a permanent part of the event in 2010. The motivation is to help beginners get involved, and experienced drivers improve their skills and lap times. As the theory and practical sessions will be customized the beginners training will be in the AM session and the experienced drivers session in the PM. The places available will be limited to ensure quality results.

Time Attack Driver Training Program – Unique One-On-One In Car Training

Every Time Attack track day now includes two training groups. The training will be performed by Doug Chapple who has been the senior driving instructor at Qld Raceway for several years. Doug has literally done thousands of laps of the circuit. During his 40 year motorsport career he has won several championships and is well qualified to provide a highly professional training program. The most unique part of this training is the in car one-on-one training where Doug will give you coaching for a session on track, helping you successfully tie together the theory with the practical.

Beginners Driver Training – AM Session

Nov 24 Price only: $59.00 (not including track booking fee)

The first time to the circuit can be a daunting experience. To take the stress out of attending your first event we have put together a beginners driver training package which is now available at Time Attack track days.

· Classroom theory session to prepare you for your first outing on the track. Items such as braking points, cornering techniques and the race line will be covered to ensure you are fast and safe on the circuit.

· Preparation of your car including; seat and mirror positioning, tyre pressures etc.

· Warm up lap strategy to properly warm the tyres and brakes.

· Cool down lap and post session car care.

· In car driver coaching, one on one. The instructor will do a session in the car with you and coach you on the proper driver techniques required to do fast safe laps.

Experienced Driver Training – PM Session

Nov 24 Price Only: $79 (not including track booking fee)

Once you have been to the track and have the experience to put down consistent laps you will start to want more from your car and yourself. Looking to improve your lap times driver training is the place to start.

· Class room theory session looking at each of the corners on the track. Planning the best approach to each corner to string together a quick lap.

· Car preparation, looking at items such as your tyre selection and the correct temperature and pressures to expect from them.

· In car driver coaching, one on one. The instructor will ride with you and show you the braking points, turn in points, corner apexes and show you how to sting them together to perform a hot lap.

Yeh it's really adictive stuff Adam. But is equally good for all sorts of cars.

Only reason I don't do it as much as I used to is that it's always mid-week and my new boss isn't quite as flexible as my last one.

But this event is about a month away so I am going to sort work so I can get to the driver training one on the 24th. Even though I have run time attack on many occasions, I think it would be valuable to do the Beginners one first up.

Then do the Advanced asap after that. I will just be using the 20" wheels and Falken 452 road tyres (rather than the RE55S semi Comps), sometimes it's nice to know what you car is capable of in complete Daily Driver Trim... Hopefully I will have the Tune sorted and Harrop Tru Trac LSD in by then.

It would be great if we had a few BCCC folk along to do same.

Number one accessory to bring is a Chair to park ya ass.

Pete if I can get enough work done in the weeks leading up to it, I'll take the day off to do it with ya.

so Pete, is all the driver training done in your own car ?
hopefully it is! If so I'm really keen

some professional driver instruction would be awesome, especially in my own car. It would give me a lot more confidence in taking my car out to future time attack events

Pete, I'm not sure exactly what you are proposing

What's the actual cost if you do the beginners then advanced. Is that the $59 plus $79 plus $270 for the track fee

i'll double check my e mail and ask paul if it is the training fee plus track fee

i'll be there first thing in the morning most likely as the flaggy

Yeh mate, the way I read it is that the instructor rides with you. This is the first time I have seen this type of thing as part of Time Attack, so I'm not real sure about it and how the thing works.

Paul's email and phone number is at the bottom of his email I posted. Give him a call, he is a really nice bloke. :)

Kev, my car is about 75% back to ready for circuit work again with the various stuff being done at Hi Torque next Thursday including the Harrop Tru Trac LSD. Plus across November/December I need a new set of rear brake rotors, and a better set of front pads put in; and also should put a new set of Bilsteins back in the front suspension (currently running stock shocks for past 8mths - since I bent a piston rod in the Bilsteins earlier days). Once done, I will be ready to rock and roll (I think).  ;)

Bear in mind though atm I'm just back out there "playing" on the circuit using street/daily drive 20" tyres and wheels. All good fun though. Brakes is the one thing I believe has to be rock solid to play circuit work. Doesn't matter how fast nor powerful your car is "the" number one priority is to be able to stop or at least slow the car at a rapid rate and cope with repeated extreme heat generating episodes of this.

Sometime mid next year I hope to be back to financial enough to run RE55S as dedicated tyres for track days and switch to the 20s for daily drive as I used to.

:)
