the age old battle of cars vs bikes is one i guess will never be settled

so i thought i would bring it up in here

as most of you know, The super GP was on at phillip island over the week end

Craig lowndes has the V8 supercar record there with a 1.33.4389 back in 99 in his VT

Nicky hayden has the MotoGP record with 1:30.059 in 08

i know comparing a car for 99 and a bike from 08 is a long way off... but they are lap records... the V8 supercars have not been any faster from what they were in 1999

bikes may be faster on some tracks, but to me i can only watch them for short periods of time... they all sound like whipper snippers on steroids....
Give me the v8's anyday.
As for street bike's, both of the LS1's ive owned were able to do 600CC's never tried anything bigger....

watching motorbike racing is like watching grass grow. the bikes are quicker on the straights and accelerate quicker. the cars are quicker on the corners. a more valid comparrison would be the super bikes. i believe there is very little between them. i could be wrong but don't care

me and a ate thought we would "play" with a GSXR 1000 one night..... he decided he would let us get around the bend and than count to 10

the road was about 4k's long with a slight bend every K along.......

as we were going around the 2nd bend he was coming around the first, and he had over taken us by the time we hit the 3rd....

the bike was just so increadably quick

most modern 1000cc jap sportsbikes are capable of doing the quarter in the 9's - straight off the showroom floor. Even 600's are cutting low 11's/high 10's these days. Top speed of the 1000's are 300+kph, GSXR1300 330+kph. My 89 Yamaha FZR1000 was capable of a 10.2 second quarter and a top speed of 290kph back in 1989. That's a standard bike.

Got to have a quick car to compete with that. Where bikes do suffer, compared to a good handling car is cornering. And it takes a damn good rider to optimise the performance of a bike. Whereas a average sort of driver can drive a quick car in straight line fairly easily.

if you can beat a modern jap sportsbike in your car, either it's an inexperienced rider you have raced, or you have a 10 second or better car!

even the modern 600cc sports bikes have 170 odd KW to 170 KG, which brings the power to weight to 1:1

also nee to remember there are alot of 250cc's rolling around designed to look like their bigger brothers

ah yeah true..

my old 350 was quite powerful... dirt bike with low range gearing, i had a top speed of 120km/h and it would beat a WRX getting to it

in 1969 i bought a triumph bonneville. at the time it was the fastest bike one could buy apart from the vincent black shadow and there were none of them around. top speed about 165 kph, standing quarter 14.2. approximately 30 kw. sounds a little bit silly compared to modern bikes. still a good looking bike.most cars were lucky to see 140 kph. far less cops around then. didn't ever get a speeding ticket.
