Some pics and a bit of a write up on my HSV GTO Coupe. Its been off the road most of this year getting a new engine combo in which specs are listed below.
Below are the mod stages the GTO has gone through over the 3 years ive owned it.
When purchased the GTO was stock as it left HSV
1st Stage - 236/240 cam and 4000 stall 12.00sec 1/4 times
2nd Stage -244/248 cam and dart heads and 6000 stall 11.05sec 1/4 time
3rd Stage -Back to stock with a 14.00sec 1/4 time - Was going to sell it.
4th Stage -230/230 cam and 3000 stall 11.90sec 1/4 time
5th Stage -230/230 cam and 3500 stall and 125HP NOS 10.92sec 1/4 time
6th stage - Drop in L98 6.0L with 237/242 cam and put a mnaual in it. no 1/4 times but made around 336rwkw on the dyno
So above with those combos the car has seen many different ones which have been fun to drive. Probably the 230/230 cam and NOS was the most fun to drive.
Now for the new setup
Ive decided to go all out on this one and have something ive wanted to build for along time. Finally bit the bullet and have started the build 6 months ago.
LSX Block stroked and bored to 434 cubes.
Callies crank and rods and wiseco forged pistons
Trickflow cylinder heads 235cc 6 bolt to suit LSX block
Yella terra ultralite rockers
Hi rise edelbrock manifold and rails
Custom GD racecars sump
Custom cam of my own grind 234/242 at 115 LSA and 0.605 lift
To top it of it will be twin turboed. 2 x GT3582R turbos on custom manifolds and a custom Plazmaman 1200HP Intercooler
Custom surge tank with 3 x Bosch 044 motorsport fuel pumps
Textralia Triple Plate custom clutch
Full 6 point roll cage throughout car as i will be circuit running it
Power iam aiming at, well who knows, it will make what it makes but i hope i get 800hp to 900hp at the wheels, that would be good. I should have the thing all up and running by Xmas this year as iam doing 80% of the work myself.
GTO at a photo shoot a year or so ago

That will be a very nice setup!.
Have you looked at Aeromotive fuel pumps? They do single pumps rated at 2000+hp for EFI and Carby applications, saves running so many bosch 044's, Magnafuel also do big hp pumps.
I would be in sooo much trouble if i brought my engine inside the dining room lol...

Yeah mate i know of the aeromotive and magnafuel pumps as ive been there before with them. 1 big pump if it fails there an be trouble, 3 bosch pumps 1 fails car can still run fine, as 2 will do the job. Also 3 bosch pumps are still more cost effective to.
The good thing about being single and owning your own house you can have an engine sitting where ever you want. :D:D:D

Paul i bought the edelbrock because it really is a bargin. $1000 AUS inc rails shipped to my door i couldnt knock that back. Only downside is having to run a small bonnet scoope similar to the VN Grp A ones. You will hardly notice the scoop i hope. There is some positive results with the manifold from the states so i will see what happens. Edelbrock do significant testing on there gear before it hits the market and these are pretty goodand have good results. On NA form they made 30HP more at the wheels on a cammed car over a LS6 manifold which was promising. these manifolds really come into play with forced induction. They suit FI well.
I found alot of the sheet metal stuff looks great but there is no data on alot of it. Its custom made and you really dont know how they perform as there isnt really alot of testing on them unless you get one thats a production model.
However i did speak to Shaun about his manifolds but in the end i couldnt justify the $3K price tag for something that wont do any better than this manifold other than look the goods.

Attacked the fuel system today. Got a fair bit done. Its nearly ready to drop in the boot. Just a few more braided lines to run. I think its up to the task. Not much else achieved. NZShaker has been lending a hand but our drinking Beers and Bourbon is getting in the road of getting this thing finished.

Just got to connect to the main line going up to the fuel rails and do the electrics tomorrow and tidy a few things up and ill be

Well we started the car yesterday finally which was good to see after all this time. Everything went well, just a few little things here and there we need to adjust but was all good.
So today we put it on the dyno just to load it up to bed things in and make sure all was good and just set the tune up for running it in over the next few weeks. Well we couldnt help ourselves and decided to give it a short dyno run to see what if would make.
Well to our suprise this is what it rolled up with a tune no where near finished but very safe.
It was only running around 7.5psi of boost. We know there is more on this boost setting than this to. I cant wait to run it in then connect my eboost2 to it and wind it up. I want to really see what 18 to 20 psi will make :D
Big thanks to the guys that helped with it all, Sean for the tuning, NZshaker for helping over alot of weekends, Garry for lending us stuff, the guys at Best Performance and PT

The GTO has done a 10.90 already down the 1/4 on a cammed 346 on NOS. This new combo wasnt setup for drags as its a manual, but i will give it a go. The car has a full weld in cage in it now but it needs to be ANDRA teched as ive already been kicked out for running a 10 sec pass. :D

Hey Jim, I have a couple of questions if you don't mind me asking.
I've been wanting to do a dead end fuel system like your setup but I asked a few people any they weren't too sure on it. Can I use any EFI regulator or do I need a special one as I don't want to run a return line the length of the car if it can be helped, are they just as effective also?
Lastly what do you think of the Kincrome tools? I want to get a good set and with Snap-on while they can be paid off over time they are very expensive!.
Cheers,
Strati.

No problem doing it that way. I run mine this way due to not wanting to run a return from the engine bay and also not heating the fuel up by having it go to the engine bay, into the reg and back to the surge at the rear. The way mine is setup which i have done myself works great and the return fuel is fairly cool. My mates turbo clubby is done the same and has had no issues running circuit work for 2 years. There are many run with the reg at the surge tank that i know of. You wont have an issue this way.
Kincrome is a good quality tool for the price. I buy them as they are reasonable for what i need. If you are a full time mechanic and can afford it, Snap On is the way i would go. But with most tool companies now offering lifetime warranty on there tools you really dont have to worry to much if one breaks.

Some pics of the GTO pretty much finished. Just need to tidy up all the bloody water and oil line hoses and its nearly done. We got alot of the low RPM stuff done on the tune today and its driving well, getting used to the tripple plate is fun, but the clutch is getting better each time i drive it. We will be running hopefully 12psi in it tomorrow on the dyno so it will be interesting to see the results.
Now to get some new brakes and strengthen the rear end and it will be soon ready for some serious circuit work. :D

Dave i think the edlebrock manifold is not a bad unit, i bought it because it was something different and i thought it would work well with boost. It is also priced very well. I paid around $875AUS shipped to my door for the manifold and fuel rails. You cant beat that. The only issue with it is that you cant fit them under our bonnets without cutting them out and running a scoop. They acually made them for trucks in the Us so they fit under there bonnet easy. They also only fit cathedral port heads which are LS1, LS2 only. They dont make them for L98, Ls3 or Ls7

Well we pushed the limits of the GTO today. We didnt run race fuel and
we didnt run to its full boost potential but we did give it a good workout.
This power was made through a T400 auto with 3500rpm stall and iam
also running a full custom 9 inch rear IRS diff with 3.25 gears. The thing
is and animal to drive, on the street ive limited it to 10psi as it still makes 700rwhp at this.
So today on pump 98 fuel and 16psi we made 900rwhp on the nose.
I really cant wait to run 20psi and race fuel to see what we will achieve
with that, but that will be later.

Cheers Brad, yeah its not bad. You will see soon how yours feels with insanse amounts of power. Iam pretty happy with 900hp pushing it through a T400 box. If i had kept the manual in it i reckon we would be up a heap more power.
Iam thinking of putting bigger injectors in it and running E85 fuel. I can buy 205L of that for around $500 bucks and it would probably pick up another 150hp being tuned on it and running at 20psi. My tune is very safe running low timing and AFRs. We still have more in it on 16psi if we wanted to but was happy with the first shake down power run.
Be interesting to see what your thing puts out after kent and the boys finish it. What size turbos are they running on yours, i ran smaller sized ones on mine to eliminate lag but now i was thinking i should have gone bigger.

Yep
I have a custom made shaft done up. I needed to do this for
the T400 Auto conversion and the 9 inch diff i put in the GTO.
Iam actually changing the tailshaft again to a carbon fibre one as mine
currently has a 6700rpm critical speed limit where as the carbon fibre
one will allow up to 10000rpm critical speed. Mine is a one piece shaft rated at 1500hp.

In about a month or so we are going to run the GTO on C16 or E85 fuel and
wind up the boost to 20psi. Iam going to get some bigger injectors which are
rated at 200lb high impedence ones which should do the job with ease.
Iam really hoping to to see around 1050rwhp. Every 2lbs of boost when we
were tuning it last week equated to around 75rwhp so we might see another
150rwhp at 20psi and good fuel. Be interesting results.

Not sure what the tailshaft from Mal wood is like or rated to. But if its an upgrade on the stock one you should be fine with it. At the end of the day the weakest part in the driveline is the CV joint itself in the driveshafts coming out each side of the diff. In my experience these will break long before a tailshaft will. Ive broken about 10 cv shafts at the track but there a simply fix and not a lot of cost compared to a tailshaft. Normally the only way you should totally stuff a driveshaft is if you are pulling some serious 60ft times at the track and with turbos you leave the line a little softer and let them work for the launch.

You should be able to get a custom 2pce tailshaft made for around $2K to $2.5K max. Not sure what you get for that $13K. I would want diff gears, Harrop tru track, Tailshaft, driveshafts and more for $13k.

Well after finally getting the GTO together how i wanted it, i decided to sell it and start a few new projects. I have now offloaded most of the parts and the shell. Its time for a new project and some house renovation.
Hopefully in a month or so ill be joining the black VE club. Ill update and put up a new thread when i know what i am doing.
