Show of interest for Fathers Day event at Lakeside
I was sent this from Shane who is the President of the XR Club
Lakeside marks Father’s Day with a massive Australian Car Celebration. Yes, Father’s Day in South East Queensland just became a whole lot more exciting for motoring fans, with Lakeside Park announcing it will celebrate our national Dad’s day with its inaugural Aussie Auto Spectacular, aptly titled All Australian Lakeside.
Following the massive success of the All American Lakeside and Thanksgiving at Lakeside US-themed car displays over the past two years, Queensland Raceways and the Aussie Car Clubs of Qld have joined forces to stage a grand exhibition of Australia’s finest automotive hardware.
This brand new event is open to all cars manufactured down under. All Australian Lakeside will consist of a massive Show and Shine Display, Open Cruise Sessions and Club Cruise Sessions on the legendary Lakeside circuit and a multi-event track session known as the Lakeside Challenge.
Consisting of a 1/8 mile drag on the main straight and optional 200 metre slalom between Hungry Corner and the Bridge the Lakeside Challenge is designed as a great fun, equipment-friendly event for social car fans, rather than fierce track competitors. Unusually, both aspects of the Lakeside Challenge are being run in the reverse direction to regular racing.
Expect to see a vast array of makes on display, with Lakeside encouraging some of the more unusual Aussie production models to join in the fun alongside the classic Fords, Holden’s and Valliant’s. While the majority of participants will own models from the big three manufacturers, the call has gone out for Aussie built Mitsubishi Sigma’s, Leyland P76s, Austin Freeways, Wolseley 24/80s, RB30 Skylines, VW’s and Volvos to be dusted off and put on display.
There will also be Traders and other displays, Aussie Food and Music.
COST
Adults - $10 each
Children – Kids under 12 years of age are free
Ok so here’s where we would fit in. I have to pay a certain amount from the club which would allow us to have a mixed cruise session on the track with the XR boys and girls. If we agree to ‘enter’ with the XR guys, and pay our amount, then Lakeside said we can have two sessions instead of one. This would mean about 40 mins on the track.
So, what do we do. Well, I have told them that we will enter with them. I will pay the money required and you guys will be first in first dressed to secure a spot. However. There are a few problems that I want to resolve and want to highlight. One, it is on fathers day. Two, Street Commodores C4C is on the same day (although not a QR event this year). Lastly, I don’t feel that the club should fit the bill for those that are not paying members. So, I suggest that those that have not paid membership will have to pay $15 to attend. This is a payment direct to the club and is on top of the $10 you pay at the gate/adult. It’s a small amount and I don’t think its unreasonable.
To make it even more attractive to current members and to possibly motivate some new members to pay, I am going to throw open an offer of paying entry for two adults as well. Membership was due on 1st July so if you haven’t paid since then you are not a member.
This time round there will be no ifs or buts. I have to make it very clear on this one. If you want to attend, that’s fine. Pay your money and you are in. There will be limited spots as I said so it will simply be first in first served. I’m sorry I have to be so heavy handed on this one. Also, numbers will be limited to 35. Large number I know but I have to give a number. The XR guys have capped their numbers at the same amount and you know how active they are so I need to let them know if they can have more.
So BCCC, lets build on a great day yesterday and hit this one up. Events with the XR club are always a huge success. There were some problems at QR yesterday with some High Performance Fords turning up for display, invited by QSCM. Apparently they simply left aftyer being abused and things thrown at them. If you cannot respect someones very tuff car because it is not a Holden then this event is not for you either.

I picked up one of the flyers at the canteen yesterday and am interested in attending.
Count me in along with the missus. I'll pay what's required mate no problem at all.
Looking forward to this one too.
Scott
I must admit when I got the flyer at QR yesterday I did think it might be a good day out. I didn't realise you were interested in doing something but I'm a tentative yes. Since I'm at work and busy..hehe.. I'll check with the missus tonight to make sure she's not planned something else. If not we'll probably make a family day of it. As you say Adam, it would be nice to keep a bit of moment going with BCCC.
Cheers
note to self..pay membership !!

I would LOVE to go to this. I read about it a while back, but it's proving to be a popular weekend. Not only is it fathers day, but originally I was meant to working a 10 day stint out west over that weekend, but Karen had planned a weekend away at Byron skydiving (her daughters b'day) ages ago.... So I managed to get out of working that weekend, but geez now this comes up :(
I really hope a lot of members show interest in this one. I certainly would be there if I could!

Just got this from QR:
Scott,
The entire site, there are noise recording monitors all over Lakeside and we have to keep the noise to a certain level which has been determined to be 95db max on track. If noise is kept to this level in all areas we should not have any issues.
Have you got a vehicle that is fairly loud or something?

Ahh... The reason I asked was because I thought I remembered that they had some db sensors at a couple of points around the track. That was for some sprint events or something....
In all honesty, why move near a racetrack if you don't like motor racing or can't stand a little motor noise from time to time. That's just a personal opinion. I guess we should be grateful we can use the old beauty at all. Really looking forward to turning some laps QR at willowbank is a bit boring now seeing we do it so often

:)
Just for info / comparison on the noise / decibel issue. For those that have heard my car doing sprints and full laps or max power/speed to 7,000rpm full noise. Headers, 100 cpi cats, twin 3" Hurricane mild steel system with merely a coupla Hot Dogs mid way and quite smallish barrels at the rear, it has a NOTE, not a BARK.
I have done quite a few sprint days and a bucketload of laps around lakeside and have not been pulled up yet.
PS
Yes there are a few noise meter thingabajigs at key locations around the circuit. But seems this Fathers Day event is modeled on Powercruise; with just a few drags across short distances and not the full circuit 5 lap races like Time Attack or Track Attack, so most BCCC cars should be fine with DB limits doin the short bang drags of the Fathers day event.
Food for thought.

Guys and gals. Here is the run down for the day from Shane at XR Club.
Hi Scott, Shane again from the XR Club. I saw on Facebook that Adam has a crook back, I don't know what info he has given you for the All Aussie Day so I hope this helps -
Both the XR Club and the BCCC have paid for a cruise session each. What the two clubs are going to be doing is going onto the track together at the same (so both club's will share the track at the same time).
Because the XR Club has paid for one session and the BCCC has paid for one session, and because both club's are sharing the track at the same time means both club's will get 2 cruise sessions instead of one. That means that both club's will get 30 to 40 minutes on track all up.
Each cruise session is 15 to 20 minutes each. My wife Kerri who organised this event has asked for 2 separate cruise sessions instead of one big one. The 15 to 20 minutes is on track, they allow for extra time to get the cars on and off the track so it doesn't cut into the cruise time.
The cruise sessions are approximately 15 to 20 minutes each session. QR / Lakeside do these club cruise sessions for the All American Days they conduct. As far as I am aware the club cruise sessions get run in the reverse direction to normal sort of racing events.
The rules are - the laps are strictly to be "happy laps" or "nana laps" so to speak. There is no speed limit as such but the organisers do expect only "cruising". The marshals will show no hesitation in pulling anybody off of the track if they feel that they are endangering the track cruise.
No helmet or safety gear is required for this event. All drivers will be briefed before going on track.
You are allowed to have passengers in your car but we have been told that they do find it works best if it is just the driver plus one passenger.
As both club's are receiving 2 cruise sessions what I would like to do is (and this is what I have told the XR Club members) -
1. The first cruise session the XR Club will go out on track first, followed by the BCCC.
2. The second cruise session the BCCC will go out on track first, followed by the XR Club.
That will make it fair on each club.
The BCCC is welcome to cruise with the XR Club to Lakeside. The XR Club is meeting at Toombul Shopping Centre, in the car park down near Mc Donalds and where the air train travels past.
Meeting time is from 7.30am and we are departing Toombul at 8.00am (Sharp) to cruise to Lakeside together.
Could you let me know if you want to meet the XR Club at Toombul and travel with us to Lakeside?
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Shane and the XR Club for extending this invitation to our Club.
So for any BCCC members who are attending and would like to cruise to the track with the XR Club, please post in here as per the above post by me and let me know who is attending. For those attending the pre-meet i'll take your entry fee and we can make one bulk payment at the gate hopefully allowing quicker entry to the event.
Please post up ASAP so we can advise Shane how many of us are attending with his Club.
Regards,
Scott

Ok an update on payments made to the Club Account.
Spoke with Adam and he is at the moment incapacitated with his back. Anyone who has paid to the Club account, this will be refunded to you.
I would ask that anyone who is able to attend the meeting point at Toombul, that we collect everyone's entry fee ($10) so we can hopefully get through the gate a little quicker by paying in one lump sum at the gate.
I've got something for all participating members and will be handing out raffle tickets (no cost) and during the day will be handing over a Darrel Lea "Dad's Cooler" to someone from BCCC. So you can either give it your dad or for the dad's attending, a little something from the BCCC for taking the day out to spend it with us.
C'mon guys and gals, yes it is Father's day and the SC Cruise for Charity is also on but would great to keep the Club momentum going from the past couple of events.
If you are a definate, post up here and let us know who is attending and will be able to meet at Toombul.

Hi All,
Shane here from the XR6 & XR8 Club of Qld.
Sorry for butting in around here but just thought I would let you know where the meeting point is for those who may not be familar with the area.
The XR Club is meeting at Toombul Shopping Centre (UBD Map 140 M4).
The club is meeting from 7.30am for a 8.00am departure (Sharp).
If you are not familiar with Toombul Shopping Centre the XR Club meet in the car park around the side of the shopping centre, where the air train travels past through to the airport and where McDonalds is.
Toombul Shopping Centre is located on Sandgate Road. If you are travelling along the Gateway Motorway you exit at the East-West Arterial Road.
Hope this helps. The XR6 & XR8 Club of Qld looks forward to a great day.

Dont they have ambo's at these events? maybe we could get the two broke backs:eek: into the back of the ambo and get them a few laps that way?
Just a thought... :devil::devil:
I'll ask when I'm out there on Saturday for the briefing. ;)

Ok guys and gals.
Some rules for Sunday's event have come through for those participating in the "Happy laps". Please read and re-read these and be sure to follow them.
Rules Are -
1. Children 12 years and up are allowed to ride in your car. Sorry, no children under 12 years of age can ride.
2. Passengers are allowed to ride in the back seat.
3. Enclosed shoes must be worn.
4. Long pants are preferrable, long sleeves are not required.
5. No helmet or safety gear required.
6. 0.00 (zero) - "No Alcohol Limit"
Pretty simple rules guys and gals. Let's make this a fun day out. It is a family event so please bring along the whole family.
Don't forget your camping chairs and pack the umbrellas as they are predicting some rain but who knows for sure.
After the breifing on Saturday I'll post up any other information that comes through so please keep an eye on this thread.
Cheers,
Scott

Just a reminder folks, anyone who is not at this point a Financial Member of BCCC, we will need to collect $15 from you to cover the cost of hire of the track.
This $15 is on top of the $10 entry fee.
Thank you in advance.

Is it too late to pay to be part of the club cruise session? Me and my dad were just going to show up and go out in the free session but it'll be better to go out with the club as well.

The club is paying for the sessions which is why if BCCC 'members' wanted to attend but were not financial had to pay a small fee. It will cost $15/car if you wish to go out with the BCCC boys and XR boys. Scruba can collect money

Ok guys attached is the program for the days events.
We have secured the pits for our cars starting at the Control Tower - total of 20 spaces only and any left over will be used by the XR Club.
I will be there at 7am and will put our Club banners up so you will see where we are situated.
There is only the 20 spots allocated to us so it will be first in best dressed (or parked on this occasion however it doesn't look like we will have 20 cars).
The program has a list of events and times.
QR advised me today that there is no need for helmets for the Track Challenges however this is limited to 40 spaces so when you get to the track, park up, grab a form from the Control Tower and sign up. I believe it is $20 to participate in the Challenges.
Stickers will be handed out to be placed on your D/S windscreen to allow you access to the Club Cruise event. No sticker no access.
Let's have a great day. Any questions please ask and i'll try to answer them.

Hi Guys,
Shane from the XR Club, sorry for butting in on here again. In regards to the combined cruise sessions, if you have a look at the time table for the day you will see that the XR Club is on at 1.15pm and the BCCC is on at 1.30pm. Because both clubs are going on track together, and because the organisers have slotted both clubs in one after the other, it now means both clubs will get 1 x 30 minute session on the track instead of two 2 x 15 minute sessions on the track, so the BCCC and the XR Club will be on track from 1.15pm to 1.45pm.
See you all tomorrow.

Hey mate, no problem if you both arrive and there are spots all good. Just have to pay the $15 each for the hire of the track (insurance etc) to cruise with the BCCC club and we'll go from there.

Scott

Remember the $15 is a contribution to BCCC for their costs to the event. You will still need to pay $10/head at the gate

We went out there and as usual left early. Far to long for us. Good day though, lots of very nice cars there. The pick for me would have been an immaculate early model Monaro with an LS1 motor. Good turn out from our club. 10 cars is not bad.

Had a great day but like Keith had to bail early to see the inlaws at Caboolture. Only fair for the missus I thought. She to is not into cars but came along for the ride and said she enjoyed it.
Thanks to all those that organised it, good to meet some of the newer people. Well new to me,and to the XR Boys for the invite to come along with them. With the C4C on at the Gold Coast there weren't that many of our particular cars there and were a bit out numbered.
I'm committed to other stuff now till the middle of October but hope to see you all at an event soon. Thanks once again.
Cheers Chris

Thanks Scott. I generaly stay to the end but yesterday was a bit different. Shane from the XR club mentioned the combined track day that was cancelled back in May. Thanks again mate and hope we got some new members yesterday.
On a different note it appeared the "Gasoline Car Club" had quite a few of our cars. Can't say I've ever heard of them but may be up for some interclub activities.

Hi Chris. Yes the Gasoline Car Club has just been incorporated and I got chatting with them on Saturday and Sunday. They are 10 members strong at this stage so hopefully in the future we may be able to do joint things with them and help each other grow.
