Just a quick question... How do you intercool it without changing your supercharger to a vortex type, centrifugal blower? A bit hard to i/cool a V6 L67 standard blower.

V8 Calais
21-03-2011, 10:35 PM
Why is it hard?

You can buy the kits they range from about $1250 upwards depending what your chasing I know mace engineering do one. I've seen other companies do them which are around the $3500 mark also.

Just because its not a centrifugal blower doesn't mean its any harder. You have to unbolt the blower take it off and put a plate inbetween it and then you can fit your intercooler. Just like on 6/71 and 8/71 etc blown applications. Blower comes off, intercooler plate fits underneath.

Air Cooled Setup on L67 (http://img181.imageshack.us/f/cjengineacn0.jpg/)

Found a pic of an aircooled L67 in that VN with the VZ front, forget the plates of the car but its pretty well known.

Naturally have to order a longer belt as the blower sits higher, same with the studs as well.

as said earlier, mace sell an adaptor plate that goes under the blower
allowing you to run the pipe work and front mount.

they are like $1150, then all the pipe work and front mount plus then you have to get it tuned.

you can make more power using A2A intercooling with these motors.

well i have just worked out my first prolbem with the car.

driving it home yesterday, i had the check engine light pop up.
so tonight i went and check the codes.

turns out that the coolent temp sensor and left o2 sensor have errors.

so because of the coolent sensor error, the ecu is in safe mode and cutting boost.

which is good, as it will go even harder once i fix it LoL.

ditch that pod and go for maces cai setup it will gain you a little power to as the l67 doesnt like sucking in hot air.
Me and a few mates are heading out to willowbank on the 9th for test n tune you should come out and give it a run see where your starting from or how far you have to go to reach your goal.

the mace CAI, is one of the first things im putting on it.

i might be keen to go to willowbank, just depending on wether or not my misses is working.

and also today i scored a cat back 2 and a 1/4 exshust for it.

so far its coming along nicely.

what a good day spent on the car.

firstly at work today, i replaced the crappy coolent over flow bottle,

and i also replaced the front pads with some high performence ones i had at home.
i also took the 17 roh's off and put my 20's on
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh36/ajr152000/P260311_1756.jpg

and this after noon, i went around to chris's place and we hooked an tech 2 up to it and cleared a few codes and sorted out the ecu side of things..

and we also installed a 2 inch boost gauge.

Should take it to the track and throw it on the dyno see what power its pushing and times so you know what your starting point is :). would be good to see before and after comparisons.

i want to take it to the track soon, but its still boost cutting due too that faulty senser.
atm its only running 2 pounds. LoL.

but as soon as i replace it, i will get a dyno and 1/4 mile time.

Just grab a new sensor by next weekend and at the auto spec you can run in the T&T as well....

thats the plan chris, but it wouldnt be a good time, as it will be in the middle of the day.

Where do you have your boost gauge line coming from? not sure if you know or have it there already but there is a rubber plug on the front of the lower intake under the blower snout this is the best spot to use and most accurate other places can cause poor readings.

In my experience you can still get a good indication of 1/4 time in the middle of the day. i know a few cars that ran the same day i did and a drop from 26 degrees down to 20 made all 4 cars drop an average of half a second.

i have my boost gauge hooked upto the boost tree.

all so today, i got sick of having only radio, so i ripped out the old head unit and put my DVD head unit it.

its good to have cd's again.

newsyk06vr2.0
09-04-2011, 06:43 PM
weel i spent my afternoon refitting the head unit and putting all the door cards back on.

while i was doin this i have a dvd on. so as i am almost done, i decide to start my car to recharge the battery.

so i turn it over, and it doesn't fire.
then i try again, and again and again, still wouldnt fire.
so im thinking F%*K what have i touched that wouldnt make the car start.

so after about 10 mins of rechecking everything under the dash i tried again and still no joy.

so im starting to think maybe my fuel pump just shat itself.
so i crank it over and listen for the pump.
pumps priming and everything but still no fire. (now im pretty pissed)

then i heard a wired noise from under that back of the car sort of like some one has left a tap on.

look under the back of the car and there is fuel pouring out from under the tank.
so i jack it up and find that the fuel filter clip has blown off the filter, so i stuck it back on and the guts of it just shatter.

and to top it all off. i broke the whole damn clip of. ( i can tell you that many a swear word left my mouth when it broke.

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh36/ajr152000/P090411_1828.jpg
^^^^^^ thats the thing that started it all.

so yeah, what a great afternoon and now i smell of petrol. fun.

stealthvn/mr vr ss
09-04-2011, 07:02 PM
im guessing u replaced the fuel filter recently but didnt have the tool to remove it?

newsyk06vr2.0
09-04-2011, 07:20 PM
i did and i used my hands to get it off
they are a push/squeeze and pull set up.

it went back to gether fine, but the side the blow off was easier to get on then the other side.

quick fix - find your breather hoses for the fuel tank, cut 4 inchs of them ( the ones that dont go aanywhere, can be 2 inchs off each ), cut 4inch in half to make 2x 2inch peices, get 4 small hose clamps and hook back up fuel filter, - fixed :bouncing:

newsyk06vr2.0
09-04-2011, 08:27 PM
well i have had a sit down a think about this.

im just going to go and rob a heap of fuel hose out of the vn for the time been.

but its too dark to try anything now

thats why most people convert it back to clamp style, just flare the metal hose ends an clamp on, simple enough job to do

thats my plan of attack tomorrow.

hence my robbing fuel line out of the vn. LoL.
i will buy the right lines and clips during the week when holden is open.

the cars fixed, well sort of anyway. LoL.

its still seeping fuel thou. as the clamp i have wont go tight enough to seal it 100%.
but it works well enough to get me to holden in the morning and buy new lines.

some plumbers tape around the pipe will fix that, or flare the ends of the pipe ( get a flat tip screw driver and jam it in the pipe and work it around and around until the end is flared )

^ lol dodgey brothers r us.

Reason why I like speedflow braided line and AN fittings. best stuff to work with!!! Factory stuff is crap.

I had one blow a fuel line getting it off the trailer at a workshop (won't mention the name) fuel all over the trailer etc leaking out, went and asked the shop for something to help stop it. 'Nah nothing mate' etc etc weren't interested in helping. Lets say I was more than filthy about it all lol.

i broke soooooooo much crap on the vt this weekend.

i broke the main drive belt, my son left the inside light on over night, the i couldnt unlock the car.

i had to break intop the car again thru the boot and in the proces got my arm stuck and ended up damaging part of the the backing on the back seat.

then i had fitted all the new tow bar set up and went to put the tounge on and i was giving the wrong bolts, but then today i went and got the right bolts and turns out the the tounge is wrong and now i have to find a machine shop that can drill thru an 3/4 inch plate steel.

but on the up side i got my new caster bushes (yet to be fitted, wonder what can go wrong)
new splits fitted to the from and i am now running full boost from the changer (6psi)
thanks to me adjusting the boost bypass valve.
plus i also changed hopw my boost gauge was set up.

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh36/ajr152000/P130511_1802.jpg

that is ment to be attached to the CTS and i found it hanging out down the back on the motor.

i hate my car.

wow what a difference it makes to have a working coolent temp sensor, the car is runs soooooo much better then it ever has and its making even more boost and the boost is staying at 5.5 psi thru all gears.

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh36/ajr152000/P260511_114801.jpg

they are a 225/60/15, and they are a shorter hight then my 20's so it might just have the effect of gearing the diff up a lil bit.

besides no side wall anit good for good times. LoL

Just for future Knowledge. VT onwards with the Deadlock system where you press the button twice... A little known "safety" mech was put in place by Holden in case of dead battery. Put key in door as per usual, turn key as if to unlock the door (but because Batt is flat it won't). You will feel a little resistance, use a little more force and it will unlock the system on that door manually. Open your bonnet, close the door and re-lock it BEFORE hooking up jumper leads. *NOTE* the button will NOT come up as it is utilizing a separate section of the locking mech that only operates when there is no power to the system.

that was the first thing i tried, but my key wont turn in my door.

1, my door barrel is jammed
2, its not the right key for my door.
