Yep, so all up it would be $783 for front and rear pads and slotted rotors, and a 1L bottle of Dot4 TRW GP600 Racing Brake Fluid.
Since we've gone to wholesaling the QFM gear, retail pickup isn't availale, but anyone local to Brisbane gets free shipping anyway, either on one of our delivery runs, or on couriers please.

How do these compare with the DBA 4000 Series Slotted. Do you stock them? Price?
gslrallysport
11-11-2009, 11:08 AM
The 4000 are probably an equivalent rotors, just the DBA's come in fancy packaging, and have the thermal paint. Only if you were going to a 2 piece would I personally justify the extra expense of DBA, but they are still a good rotor.
Yep, we stock them! Gimme 5 and I'll grab pricing for VE V8!

Mine is the VE SSV. We discussed a package, post 6 of this thread.

Yep, I realised that about a minute after I posted it! :p
DBA rotors for the VE V8 (4000 front and street rear, both slotted) are $260 each.

Faaark. More than $1000 for rotors!!! What about standard slotted DBA's? How do they sit comparison wise in relationship to the RDA's we discussed?
gslrallysport
11-11-2009, 12:48 PM
Pricing won't be much (if any) cheaper. That price was the for rear street series (cause they're not available in the 4000), so it'd be only be the fronts. Also (and don't quote me) I'm pretty sure last time we ordered the front as a street they said only the 4000 was available, and we coped the extra for the customer.
Personally, I would just take the RDA. There's isn't double the value in the DBA 1 piece rotors...

Sorry! Revise previous numbers! The slotted rear street series are only $175 each! Given they buggered this up the first time I asked I'm asking again about street series slotted front... will let you know!

Thanks for the advice Greg
Those QFM A1RMs quoted by Greg are cheap as chips Adam (great value).
Go check with Autobarn what they are asking for Bendix Street/Road/Track (SRT) pads - front and rear - I would suggest Supercheap are probably a tad more spensive again. Makes them DBA rotors look cheap lol.;) Somehow the Kangaroo Paw cooling technology/patent of DBA has been overlooked here. 5000 series DBA are two piece design but in my opinion are only worth the money if used for track work or high end repeaded braking from big speeds often (certainly not needed for you)...
Just remember we are dealing with low to mid level stopping power stuff based on original equipment rotor size specs. A set of Harrop Monster Brakes or a set of AP Racing Brakes in big mumma size is around $8,000 for parts alone.:)
Harrop do have a new alternative on good stopping power for VE (mid-large size rotors) but again, its near as shit is to clay $5,000 for parts alone - way outside my scope of budget.

Agreed
Northy's AP's are worth a bit more than $8 though he didn't pay that and I know about the Harrops. I am very envious and I know they would stop something on a dime. But, like you, probably about $5 to $6 more than I wanted to pay....
Greg has given me a great option and I would have to assume that it is better than the SSV brakes (well, that wouln't be hard). For less than $1000 I will have new slotted rotors front and rear, new pads and new fluid.
Good work Greg

Absolutely mate, that is a "Great Deal". Top brake combo there, and I rekken they will last a hell of a long time cause they are Track/Circuit based products.
Yeh Sonny at Marinos (NSW) was where I got my AP Racing Brakes quote for mine from. At the time was $7,200 special deal I negotiated; but I allowed a tad for inflation since then in the above post LOL. Unfortunately I don't seem to ever get to the point where I can justify those $$ for brakes, albeit that they would solve quite a few recurrent problems for me - generally too busy spending money on replacing broken bits on mine...

I have mulled it over and undertaken a sheizerload of research.
Bottom line, this time round I am going work up to DBA 5000 series rotors with SRT Pads all round. I have had 4000 series previously and an almost new set on the front atm. As many of you know I just try and test things and report my findings for others consider (and make thieir own choice). Are SRT better than A1RM, "probably not"; I mounted a rear set of SRTs today but need new rotors as the current ones are pretty badly worn. I will get a set of front SRTs and rear rotors within the next few weeks and see how it all goes.
Big heavyweight cars need friggen top notch pads and rotors. The bigger and more powerful the car, the more heat it generates in slowing/stopping and has higher risk of catastrophic failure or death. If you analyse this in reverse order, then a solid rotor will actually do the job if combined with reasonable pads and fluids - depends on your use and expectation of braking "systems" that makes a huge difference.
Greg if you would give me a PM quote on a set of Bendix SRT front pads for the Calais and also a set of DBA 5000 series Slotted Rotors for the "rear" would be appreciated.
PS
I still rekken the A1rm are one hell of a pad that would suit or exceed most peoples needs.

Pete,
Definitely no 5000 series available for the rear. 4000 only.
SRT to suit front are about $319, but I've got no idea how that compares to elsewhere as I do every little Bendix...

Greg

Okays too many breakages causing finance woes.
Greg can you line me up a REAR set of RDA Gold Passivated Turbo Grooved Sports Rotors for the VE Calais-V. May as well throw in a set of QFM Comp9 "rear" pads to the order as well. My current rear rotors are seriously worn and lipped, so I rekken the wear pattern of the SRTS on there may be pretty average when fitted with the new rotors.
I get paid Thursday 23rd September, so I will pay and pick them up then. Just shoot me a quote for the parts and all will be good.
Being the rears its not so critical as the fronts. The RDA are definately good value for money.

I'll give my opinion after running these rotors with the QFM pads
I think they are certainly good value for money and certainly are better than the DBA equiv. I'm prepared to say that. I think there is certainly a big improvement over stock SS brakes
Unfortunately, I dont like how they have lasted in the look department. When I first put them on they looked great. But after 2 or 3 washes they have gone brown with surface rust which is very hard to clean off. In 5 months they now make the car look untidy after a big clean.
Just my take. If you buy them Pete, I suggest you clean all the protective coating off them and then paint the hats with hi temp brake paint just to protect them. Then fit to the car. I now have to do it by taking with wheels off etc etc

No probs on my part Adam. Whilst I own a luxo I'm not really into bling and looks. Just so long as the products can withstand the pounding of a near two Tonne Tessie running from 210 kph down to 80kph within seconds, then re-do the excercise.
Check the maths on it and the exponential torture placed on a heavyweight versus a mere 1.4 tonne car
