I've been watching the progress of LCD tv's for about 3 years now. Up until 12 months ago, the price & quality wasn't enough to convince me to upgrade.
However the quality has improved a long way recently, particularly with 100hz, LED/LCD's coming down in price.
I've looked at all the brands, watched them in the stores, looked at their specs and reviews. And the Samsung was the most impressive overall. I had my sights set on a 40inch, LCD/LED, 100hz Samsung. http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/tv-audio-video/television/led-tv/UA40C6900VFXXY/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&returnurl=
So I went shopping yesterday, after some negotiations with JB hifi, I ended up getting a really good deal. I've had it up and running for the last couple of nights and LOVE it! Picture is awesome, and should get the bonus Blu-Ray player soon, to take full advantage of the HD.
Well done Darren. Buying tv's can be confusing and time consuming, as you say, making sure you get good value for money. The thing I hate is what ever you buy, 6 months later there's something better, oh and don't look at prices anymore, you'll find what you paid just gets cheaper and cheaper as newer models come out, but thats just how it works..paid $2700 for my 54" Panasonic (not LED) not all that long ago, too scared to look in the shops to see what they go for now..lol
Cheers

cheers Mark
yeah, I don't get too caught up in all the price drops anymore. I now buy when I am happy with the price and quality. By the time the price hits rock bottom, the next model with more features comes out and you want that one and then end up waiting.... the cycle starts all over again and you never end up buying. Same thing goes with computers.
This was one of those purchases where I had a certain minimum standard in mind, and maximum figure that I wanted to spend. 40 inch is the screen size as anything bigger would be too big for my loungeroom, so I was just waiting until a good quality 100hz, LED 40 inch screen met my criteria. And I am extremely fussy when it comes to picture quality, so a lot of research went into this one before making the decision.

Thats great darren, I used to sell TV's daily at work so knew all the ins and outs. Samsung was my favourite manufacturer and the brand I sold the most of. They make very good panels and the price for features is definately good.
The trap alot of people get caught up in is they think that bigger is always better. I ordered in some 63" panels for work for display purposes and customers would stand 1m away and go the picture isn't that good....(obviously way too close to view the proper picture).
Blu-ray is great, definately way more affordale now and there is a noticable difference in quality. LED's are great...very good on power and the performance is great!

ya ive had 3 plasmas and when Samsung brought out their LED TVs i thought time to try LCD as they are stunning pic quality. so i bought a 46" Samsung side LED LCD (this was just before 3Ds came out) but it is a stunning picture well worth the money when i bought (was before prices dropped lol) you will enjoy it. just make sure you run HDMI where possible as i am stunned at amount of people with HD tvs plus other HD equipment and they use fookin AV cables............

yeah the picture quality of the Samsung really seems to be a step above the rest. I also like the Sony, but the picture quality on comparable models didn't seem quite as good as the Samsung
I spent $140 on a couple of HDMI cables. My philosophy is there is no point owning a V8 if you are going to run it on 6 cylinders ;)
Still got to buy another HDMI cable when my 'bonus' via redemption blu-ray player arrives

Awesome Darren.:headbang:
I got 5m hdmi cables for the projector on ebay. Came from the usa but they handle 1080p @ 120hz (I run 3d through it) without a issue.
Cost $55 each. They do smaller (1.5m) cables for around $30.

Good choice Darren,
I got the 46" i think it is in the LED and the quality is great. Your on the money about using the correct cabling as well. Do it right the first time. I also got the free Blu ray and it great. Plays dvd's as well so its win win.
Now i just have to get back downstairs to my bar area where it is. watching an 81cm lcd samsung upstairs for last 7mths due to new daughter.. LED is directly below her cot. DAMN!!! :)
But good choice again. I have only ever owned Samsung Lcd/Led and never had a problem.. 'touchwood'

RRP is $2099, JB's advertised price was $1788
I got it for $1430, so I got a fairly good deal I reckon
50inch would be way too big for my loungeroom.
40inch is just the perfect size for my room!
