First of congratulations to Nick for winning a very tough COTM, with his beautifully presented CV8Z Monaro.
The first thing that strikes you as you see this beast is coming at you is the stunning gold “Fusion” paintwork. It looks absolutely stunning and dare I say even better than when it rolled off the Elizabeth factory line in Adelaide back in 2005. The paintwork isn’t the only thing that you will be in awe of as the munro blasts past you, that menacing stance is achieved through the replacement of the OEM gear with Pedders Suspension gear, lowered springs and sportsryder shocks. Sitting on a set of 19inch Speedy Infernos, this is one munro that has plenty of street prescence.
But looks aren’t the only thing that this car is, quite the opposite. She has the grunt to back up the looks. Under the bonnet is the venerable LS1. Not just any LS though, this ones had a bit of work done to wake the old girl right up. Starting with a ZCAI OTR induction that Nick designed and made for himself, amongst others, it lets plenty of cool air in. The heads were replaced with a set of Dart 205 heads, and a 222-224 bump stick has been whacked up the guts. Pacemaker tri-y extractors with 2 1/2" exhaust give it plenty of exhaust flow as well as a tuff but not over the top grumble.
The gearbox is a 6 speed tremec, which has been fitted with a Option 3 clutch, and a Rip shifter for perfect shifts when its needed. Putting power to the ground is a standard diff with a set of 3.9 diff gears to give it a bit of a shove in the bum. Stopping power hasn’t been overlooked either, with a set of VZ R8 premium brakes with 350mm stoppers on the front and 330mm on the rear. Lets just say she stops on a dime.
All this in one potent, yet perfectly built street car. So far the Monaro has stamped down a best of 403 rwhp! And took out the Best Car of the Show 1990-2008, at the recent Cleveland Auto Spectacular, which is one of the biggest car shows in SE QLD. Very impressive effort.
So Congrats Nick on winning COTM, and good work on the Monaro!
