Hey all,
Tried to fit walkinshaws on to the back of my VL, its a NA6 so has Drum brakes at the moment, when i put them on, the studs are too short to get a nut on to so i know i need to put longer studs on, but ive been told that i have to use spacers to push the rim out just a couple of mm off the drum??
anyone had this issue i need some urgent advice :)
thanks

drop the VL crap and put a VN diff in, its a little wider so guards will need to be rolled, but it will fit the walkies on, and convert that arse end to disk ;)

yeah they won't fit on a drum rear end without modification
I've seen a set of Walkinshaw wheels with the centre machined out to fit drums though. Not sure if it's legal, but you could check with a wheel repairer like Depulu. They will tell you whether it is possible or not to modify them to fit.
I wouldn't recommend longer wheel studs or spacers - both illegal as it changes the track of the rear axle, also the wheel will no longer be supported by the centre trunion

i agree with Darren on this...
its just as easy to fit a disc brake rear end from another VL to get them on Ben..
dont do the bodgy and fit longer studs or spacers..:(

When I first put the injected motor in my vb I also fitted the vp rear end. Even with the rolled guards it still rubbed. Might have had something to do with the offset of the wheels. When I changed the rear end to the vl turbo the problem disappeared. Vl turbo diff's are dearer than the vp. I think possibly as there are less of them around and also because they have a 3.45 ratio compared to the vp's 3.08

yeah the VN-VS axle is about 50mm wider than the VB-VK diff, which probably accounts for the scrubbing of tyres
The VL diff is only about 15mm wider than the VB-VK
and yeah they are more expensive, especially the 28 spline variety (V8 & turbo 6), mainly because they are less common
the turbo diff was 3:45, the V8 was 3.08

You did just right fitting the walkingshaws at the back of the VL with brake drums (http://www.drivewire.com/part/brakes/brake-drums/) in it. It is best to ask an auto repair shop about the compatibility of walkinshaws.

Vn diff on vb - vl sucks. Yeh it's a stronger diff and have discs but the width is a pain in the ass. It's not that hard to convert the drums to discs, I can sell you all the bits you need even.
