ok need to pick some brains here cause im stumped

on the rear of the VS theres a big exhaust rubber ( about the size of a small apple ) it sits right next to the tailshaft, now, its sitting that close its actually rubbing on the tailshaft ( so much so that its polished it ), the only thing i can think of is my rear trailing arms are buggered ( i know the upper trailing arm rubbers arnt that good, but both upper an lower will be getting replaced in a few weeks ), its got a nolathane adjustable panhard bar on the rear ( with exhaust bend ) when i put it on i adjusted it accordingly then went and got a 4 wheel wheel alignment and found it to be pretty dam close to perfect so the diff possition isnt an issue.

The only thing i can think of is when i hang a right the buggered rubbers in the trailing arms are alowing the diff to move, causeing the tailshaft to move onto the exhaust rubber

anyone got any ideas?

Gee thats a fair bit of movement. have you pushed on the exhaust to see if it'll move over that far and hit the tail shaft?

Its not the 2 rubbers near the rear bar that have let go too so the whole thing is moving side to side?

it looks thinner now because i hacked half of it away to alow me more clearance between the rubber and tail shaft, before i cut it away it was sitting at max 1cm away from the tailshaft

all rubber are brand new barr that one, when i got the car they where a little worse for wear so i replaced them all, exhaust hardly moves at all ( maybe 2 - 3 inchs in each direction sideways which im told is pretty usual ) even with the say 3inch movement towards the tailshaft the the rubber only moves about about 1cm ( as it pivots on the bracket on the car and on the exhaust )

2-3 inches
if my exhaust moved that far in any direction I would have paint off around the bumper everywhere lol You got to tell em to make it tight... it makes it more rigid but apparently cracks more? I got zip ties around a couple of the rubbers to restrict their movement as well...

slop movement is about an inch at most either side, if i push it hard either side its 2 - 3 inchs

Engine mounts fine?

Might be abit of twist causing it. All else fails get a flexible segment put into the exhaust

whats happened pete, is the rubber mount has weakened from age, and stretched..

go buy a new rubber, put that on, and see how it goes.. ya may also find the rear mounts at the bumper will be stretched so replace them at the same time..[ they may be new, but with 1 rubber stretched, the others will do the same..]
if that fails and still rubs, go to an exhaust mob, get them to bend the exhaust towards the outer edge of the car a little bit to stop the rubbing..

i had to do that to my old VN sedan when it had the same problem before i got my mandrel-bent system modified when fitted.. i knew it would..lol

the rubber should only cost ya $5 from repco..

ya should always replace the rubbers on the system fully, not 1 at a time..:)

had all but that one replaced new, didnt replace that one cause it was on the RWC sheet as a replacement item, and it was checked off, typical car yard i guess

hell with it, iv hacked half of it away and it not rubbing anymore, it'll do until i replace the whole dam exhaust lol

John - engine mounts are fine but i have feeling the transmission mount is a bit of a dud lol

when i had my 3inch exhaust put on they didnt use that rubber agin. in the end the rubber got stuck in between the body of the car and the tail shaft. worse noise ever

seems ya question has being answered pete
