The other day i went a and washed the car, on the way to the car wash i had the music pumping, washed the car then once i started it again i noticed a noise through the stereo, like a static sound and a whining noise, when i moved the car out of the bay i noticed when i go up in revs the whining noise gets a higher pitch. turn the stereo off and the sound disappears, so the stereo must be picking it up from somewhere,

i unplugged my amp to the sub - it was still there.
unplugged the amp to the speakers - it disappeared - obviously because speakers were disconnected but i could here the static sound through the sub..

got my uncle to look at it last night and he said it may be the Suppressor on the alternator.

Rang the Auto Elecs this morning and thats also the only thing he thought of. so i went and got a new one this arvo and fitted it and it still has the noise there.

Does anyone have suggestions of what could be causing this Static noise and whining noise? i keep the stereo turned off as it is quite loud and not sure if it will do damage to the stereo..

its in a VL 3.0ltr aswell..

Cheers
Ben

Do you have cross overs? are they inside the door?

I had it happen to one of my cross overs... the water drained through the door (as it does) and it obviously over time corroded the connections on the cross over. The corrosion/white crap was causing a bad connection and that noise you talk about.
I cleaned the crossover and it's still working good to this day!

It would be worth checking, seeing as it happened after you washed the car.

Post back when you have.

same thing happened when i put the JVC head unit in my VS, the VS's loom earth wasnt enough for it so had to hook it up elsewhere, stoped the problem and stopped sounding like i had a stereo that was doing a bad impersonation of a supercharger hahahaha, might be your problem might not, but never hurts to check

mmm, its wierd it didnt do it before though, its only just started doing it and the stereo has been in it for a few months.. i replaced the arial the day before it happened but i didnt hook power up to it so im not sure if that can be causing a problem, wich i cant see why it would be because the old one wasnt connected after it stopped going up and down aswell and this never happened.

im getting a suppressor for the arial anyway 2moro, carnt hurt, and ill keep looking for the issue
