take a photo of the hole and the damaged wheel and send a letter to Main Roads. My mate hit a big pot hole on his bike some years back, bent the front forks. He sent a letter to Main Roads, who from memory forwarded it to Boral (who was responsible for roadworks at the time). Boral advised he get the repairs done and send them a copy of the invoice & they would pay it.
He sent the invoice in and they sent him a cheque for the full amount - no dramas.
We pay ridiculous money for rego, so the expectation for decent roads is not unreasonable. It's worth a try

yep
I remember telling the mate at the time that he had next to no chance getting anything back, but luckily he ignored my skepticism and wrote the letter. And he got the money without any dramas. We were both rather suprised how easy they paid up.
Keep in mind that was some years ago, but it can't hurt to try.

yeah mate. Photos and then a letter.
I damaged two tyres (both factory bridgestones) at different times. BJ's was confused by the actual damage on the tyres so sent them away to Bridgestone for testing. Result. Impact damage. So I sent the report off to the council.
I just recieved a letter prior to chrissie requesting two quotes. I got them and sent them in. They told me 6 weeks but if I get both my bridgeys replaced I'll be stcoked. I've already put new tyres on.
I'd get back out there quick smart and take the photos though.
Just another thing. I have been complaining to council aboout our roads for months. The same roads I travel every day. When I got my tyres replaced last week, the guy said that one of them had a few little buckles. From what. Potholes. Nothing to be concerned about but probably why there is a bit of vibration in the cabin. Luckily that is going to be a spare.

Yesterday I received the letter I have been waiting for.
The Queensland Local Government Mutual Liability Pool has sent me a letter stating basically they are prepared to offer me a settlement of just over $1700 to cover the cost of both damaged tyres.
This is a result of two 20" factory Bridgestone tyres (replacement value of $875 each ) being destroyed due to pot holes around Brisbane.
I would encourage anybody, who hits a pothole that damages a tyre or wheel, to stop the car immediately, take some photos (most people have a camera in their phone now) and send off a request for damages to the city council (or Main Roads - determine who looks after the particular road you are on. This can be done by sending a email to Main Roads first who will let you know if it is a State Govt road or a road looked after by a local council). If they say no immediately keep on them. This has taken a good number of months to come through but at least it has.

I tried this and they told me that there had no been any other complaints about it and that they would nt pay. two or three weeks later it was fixed though.. B$##@rds.
Had impact marks in both wheels on passanger side of the car - got them repaired -
Feel for ya brad. I know what its like.

I guess one thing I had going for me was they report prepared by Bridgestone when we hit them up for a warranty claim. I had also complained to the council a number of times prior to sending them the report. All I would suggest is to not take their initial answer as final. Dave you said that they fixed it almost straight away. Possibly because they had received complaints. Did you have photos. That's the big one. You must get out and take photos staright away. Otherwise you wont win.

Well here's hoping you do succeed with your claim.
The condition of Queensland roads would be the envy of any 3rd World Country.
