welcome -tough ride mate, and something a bit different to the usual with the rear mount turbo. Good numbers for an otherwise stock engine! Any drawbacks with the turbo being mounted so far away from the engine ?
one thing that concerns me though is having the turbo mounted right up against the fuel tank - with not even a heat shield  Was it professionally installed ?

The only difference is about 100 degree's C of heat after i wrapped the exhaust. Turbines do not work off heat as people think they do. Gas expands 22% for every 100 degree's F so a turbine sized for a engine 33% smaller will work just as well. Heat is only related to volume and subsequent velocity, basic physics. Ive used a 50mm wastegate just incase of boost creep using a smaller turbine. The heat wrap is to stop heat soak (higher the temp, harder it is to raise)
The turbo sits around 180 degree's c in its position, the fuel tank doesn't really get warm but ive got some space shuttle alloy coming to use as a shield. Even thought about a turbo blanket for it but to exy for what they want.
Its a .98 rear which is too big for a engine equavilent of 3.3L, full boost by 4000 as it sits (which is great top end as you normally sit above that). Smaller housing is .58
Pulls like a school boy, its a 5.01psi spring and without the boost controller it was sitting on 5psi flat in the manifold according to the dyno computers sensor, boost nipple for the wastegate is just after the turbo. Lag is not noticable between gears.
I did the work myself, picked up the pipes and donuts from western filters in WA, flanges on Ebay and muffler from some place on moss st, springwood. Oil lines are high temp hydrolic lines from (i forgot the name) a street over from moss st. Oil return pump is a porsche 12v scavenge
All up including tune its set me back just under 4k
Is it worth it?
HELL YES, the engine bay temps are nice and low. Nothing gets cooked and theres no need for a turbo timer (unless you flog the shit out of it)

well it sounds like you have it all sussed out John!
great stuff - I bet it's a ball tearer! One thing I don't like about turbos is the mess/access problems/heat in the engine bay. Rear mounts eliminate this problem. Well done, and once again welcome aboard, hope to see you out on our cruises. And it doesn't look like a bucket of shit too me!

haha cheers, Ive just gotta do a few things to make it all legal, mainly plumb back and catch can then off to plate before i take it anywhere cruising.
As far as i understand any bov venting to atmo, and filters on catch cans are illegal?

I know the BOV into atmo is not legal....
Did this require mod plate?..I should imagine it would but just wanting to check..
I would also be worried about driving in the wet and spraying water onto the turbo caseing....
Nah the turbine housing doesn't get hot enough to go cop enough shock to crack. Ive hit water puddles in it already in the past and driven it in heavy rain without a issue. The pod filter on it was driven dialy over 8 months for about 3 hours a day on unsealed (dirt) roads, 2 hours on butimen and its still breathing fine. Im thinking about relocating the filter to above the diff center through
But yeah still requires a mod plate as its fitting a turbocharger

venting to the atmosphere is a grey area....
it's only venting pure intake air (no fuel/exhaust), so gas emissions aren't an issue. It's the noise that can get you into trouble. It can be considered as noise emissions if it exceeds the regulation noise limits. All I can suggest is avoid atmospheric BOV's if possible, if only to avoid being cop, or DOT.......;) bait
however vented catch cans are illegal. Crankcase breathing must be ported back to the engine

Nice to see something different John, and nice looking ride.
Air temp. helps timing and fuel which = HP
Your on the correct track, look forward to seeing some of those numbers shortly.
Wlcome look forward to seeing this in person soon.:D
cheers

Just an update,
I fitted a smaller turbo.. Shoulda done it earlier. Boost comes on hard at 2000rpm, by round 2700 im sitting on 10psi.
Turbo is a Generic Ebay .60 front, .58 rear 60trim. Holds all the way to redline with no noticable boost creep. I have to check the haltech logs to see if there is any boost creep but the 50mm wastegate seams to hold it well. Can't see any change on the boost guage
Should have a cooler fited up next week. Then it will be back to get a retune and see whats its puttin to the ground. Atm it breaks traction on a hard luanch all the way through 1st and 2nd

He bought the turbo on eBay. Goes hard. He left me in a plume of smoke and rubber the other day. I love the rear mount too coz you can hear it spooling up really clear. Sounds AWESOME.

sorry bud ebay is crap in my eyes but good luck to him if it runs well but all i'm saying end of the day u pay for what you get, quality and perfection and thats what I expect
Just my 2c
Of course you get what you pay for. I pay for the turbo. I get the turbo. If i didn't get the turbo it would be fraud. If you assume cheap is nasty then you are stuck in the 80's.
Many Chinese companies have better QC then other local and international jobs. For example Ive brought shocks, torches, lights, computer, rubbers, tools, welders, etc from china and honestly they outlast the shit built in countries running on democracy. I pay the equivalent to a workers meal and get something normally worth several hundred. We manufacture our alarms in china and they pass stringent Quality Control checks that ANY Australian manufacturers would fail. Trust me, i tried the local markets and they weren't up to scratch.
"You get what you research" is the new "you get what you pay for"
Sorry if that comes across as having a go at you, wasn't intended as so.

mate sorry if I offended you it was about ebay I deal with chinese factorys and yes your right on that part but in my industry the crap we see people buy because its cheap is annoying we quote on jobs and the client then jumps on ebay thinks thats looks close to what they quoted buy it and bring it in for us to make something from it.Not anymore I have a very high quality control and if a job going to look like shit because the client is a tight ass then we wont do the job.
someones got to keep the australian economy or well all be eating rice;)
Ahh yeah i get what you mean. Ive had that a few times (Its cheaper on ebay). I always just say go for it :-)

I totally agree about the 'do your research' point.
If you know what you are looking for, understand the specs and research feedback from other people etc who have used the same product - you can often get a good quality product at a low price.
It works both ways. There are people who buy cheap crap off ebay without doing their research and live to regret it - Procomp stroker kits being the best example I can think of. Had they done even the slightest bit of research on any busy car forum, they would have known to stay away from it.
On the other hand, you have people that put blind confidence in usually well respected brand names, pay a fortune for it only to be disappointed with the results (I used to be one of these people - not anymore!!) Whether it's a cheap Chinese or expensive brand name, good research prior to buying is the key!

couldnt agree more, just the other week i was quoted $450 for adjustable upper trailing arms for the VS at Pedders, went to repco they want $430, went to supercheap they dont do them, autobarn will charge $440 and $25 to get them in, jumped on ebay and they didnt even have normal heavy duty nolathane's there, went to gumtree queensland and they had a private seller on there selling for $175 :) ( $50 more than the normal heavy duty nolathane arms )

looks hot, the rear mount setup is stealth as !
Done a few things since..
Bolted up water injection. 2 nozzles just before the throtle body. 300cc is controlled by a boost switch. 200cc by the haltech. 20L water bottle in the boot with a 250psi pump, 250psi soleniods supply the injectors.
Has dropped intake temps from 96 to below 40 @9psi. So won't be doing a intercooler now. Will see what its like at 13psi at its retune next week. Also its allowed me to advance the timing some, as the water is adding 50 points atleast to the octane rating of the fuel (detonation resistance).
Put a different turbo on, GT35 .68 rear and .70 front. Didn't realise till i was at c4c7 that the different sizing would lean it out so much. Water injection mentioned above is probably the only thing that saved it from serious detonation. Was leaning off the scale (20:1)
Seeing as it survived pinging like a drug addict yesterday many times.. I reckon it can handle 13psi..
Few things ive found, Needs bigger brakes and a locker. LSD can't handle it now.
Ordered front and rear adjustable sway bars. That will eliminate the body roll.
New rubbers front and back probably wouldn't be a bad idea either.

just to think this all started from a ride in humble blue ute ;)
lol yep, boost is addictive.
Front swaybar is in. Awesome!
Put it on the 3rd setting (out of 4) and i get about 1 inch of body roll around a 90 degree corner at a spirited speed. Very happy with the result. I think setting 4 would be like a go cart lol
Should have the rear this week, sold the old ute so might sorce bigger brakes aswell

awsome :headbang:, that the same sway bars im going
Update:
Clubby hasn't been driven since Cruise for Chairty due to a fried clutch and too little time.
Brought a dual fiction style clutch (Organic flywheel side / Ceramic pressure plate side). Should be doing that next week, its built for race purposes but retains drivability as close as possible to a normal clutch. So I am hoping it will last a little longer this time.
Also scored a 800hp water/air intercooler kit, will have to mount it up and move some crap around but it will be a hell of a lot easier to fit and for almost the same price as a normal air to air setup.. Booked in for a retune @12psi in 4 weeks time.
Will now need to watch and wait for a cheap T56 conversion to pop up, after the cooler and tune I think my luck will quickly run out with the stock 5 speed sooner.
